Guess McCain's attempted debate zinger
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 11:27 PM by minnesota_liberal
Against the ropes and with hope fading, you can be sure McCain will come out swinging in Wednesday's final presidential debate.

Since he isn't likely to win on issues, McCain's best hope is a zinger of the same magnatude as Ronald Reagan's in his second debate against Walter Mondale in 1996: "I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience."

So, what unrebuttable statement can McCain come up with?

Extra points if it fits well on a bumper sticker!

I'll go with: "I'm a fighter. My opponent couldn't have lasted five and a half weeks in that POW camp, much less five and a half years!" Probably untrue, impossible to prove or disprove and totally irrelevant, Obama couldn't respond without being seen as attacking a war hero's military contribution.

2. "The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree."
Then he'll point and say, "THAT ONE is the tree," but the joke will fall flat when he flashes that creepy yellow grin.

6. McCain married up, why would he say that - except for comic effect?
Cindy McCain, intellectual lightweight as she is, doesn't see so bad. In fact, she's got to be scared shitless about the prospects of life with John after he loses in a landslide.

7. I'm guessing he goes with the racial slur card...
Might as well use some outright racist slur at this point since his only chance are diehard racists.

14. Given the way McCain's been behaving...
"I knew Jack Kennedy. You sir, are no Jack Kennedy."

At which point Obama just stares for a few moments, interrupted by the moderator.

"Senator. The question was about the similarity between your new economic plan, and the stump speech you gave at the Republican convention..."

McCain turns, turns again, and turns one more time. The camera staff of the tv stations struggle to determine which cameras to air the image off of, which way is he facing?

"John McCain, Lt. Commander. Serial number..." trails off to mumbles.

Moderator: "Well, we are all really prisoners of the economy... as the ripples spread around the globe. On that note, let's take a commercial break."

And then, come Thursday, the surrogates come on air. "John McCain is a great fan of the arts. He felt that the American people needed to be properly impressed by the imprisonment of the government control of the economy that Barack Obama is calling for... and as a fan of the arts, he felt that Performance Art was the only way to truly communicate to the people the full extent of the threat posed by Senator Obama's policies."

"A fan of the arts? I see..." Surrogate interviewer, unsure if he/she dares to call surrogate on such an obvious load of bullshit, panics, wets him/herself... and cuts to commercial break...

15. In response to any Ayers/terrorist statement...
Obama should point out the number of lobbyists associated with McCain's campaign and state that so many lobbyists are a far greater threat than any former radical such as Ayers, who has been a model citizen for 40 years.
