Has anyone else seen this spam email?
Got this from a friend of mine...

for the Voting Poles

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW ...
For those who vote "Straight Democratic", please pay close attention!!!
I was informed this weekend by a group of Obama volunteers that when
voting for the presidential candidate this November, you have to make
sure you punch Barack's name first, then proceed to punch "Straight
Democratic" or else the vote for the president won't count. I'm not
sure if any of you are aware of this, but we know they won't tell us
this at the poles. Please try & inform others.

First, it doesn't apply in a lot of states where straight ticket voting isn't offered, and second, probably isn't possible with touch screen voting machines. I assume in the cases where it IS possible, anyone who double-punches a ballot potentially INVALIDATES it. Anyone know where this is being targeted?

2. You need to see these two threads (one was last night) about this voting quirk.
The email is FALSE and may even cancel your Obama vote. Just vote one way: for all democratic candidates, or go line by line to vote for your choices.

3. I voted at my City Clerk's office here in WI on Monday of last week.
I chose not to vote a straight Democratic ticket because I wanted to have the pride and joy of specifically connecting the line beside the names of Obama/Biden. I then connected the line for each of the other Democratic candidates.

4. This was going around here in PA but there is a debunking email
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 08:42 AM by BumRushDaShow
that is fortunately going around describing exactly what must be done, at least with the machines here in Philly.

We can vote straight party with a single button push here in Philly, but if you uncheck Obama after you do that, then you CANCEL his vote. The machines have a LED next to each name and if the LED is blinking, no vote has been cast. When the LED is solid, a vote has been cast. When candidate/question selection is completed by the voter, hitting the big green "VOTE" button finalizes the voting and you're done.

5. it's my understanding that this email is RIGHT regarding NC
the ballot first asks for your presidential choice, then, below, it offers a straight punch for everything downticket.

Pay attention to your state's rules. The ballots aren't configured uniformly.

6. True in North Carolina and in South Carolina

NC and SC usually have disproportionate undervotes because of this problem.
