Husband names new baby Sarah McCain Palin behind wife's back

A Tennessee man couldn't give much to the McCain/Palin campaign, so he gave his child's nomenclature.

"I took one for the cause," said Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton. "This is a little token to the McCain camp, and we are strong supporters of that ticket." Ciptak put "Sarah McCain Palin Ciptak" on his newborn daughter's birth certificate documents, ignoring the name he and his wife picked earlier.

"We actually came up with the name Ava Grace, and I secretively went and got another set of forms," Ciptak said. His wife Layla, he told the Kingsport Times-News still didn't know what he had done when he first talked to them. "Only some friends and family members who I have called for prayer support know at this point," he said. In a follow-up, Ciptak said that "she was not quite fond of me or of what I have done, but we've had some time to talk it over, and she has been really supportive through it all."

Ciptak's in-laws, on the other hand, are "planning my funeral behind my back," he said. "There's some resentment from the family."

The Ciptaks are considering reverting their daughter's name to "Ava Grace," but Mark said he doesn't regret his original move. "If anything, to show some encouragement to someone out there, that if something so simple as naming her what I named her has such a huge impact from just such a little, tangible thing, that we can really do anything," he said. "It encourages me that we can do more."

They are really self-absorbed and don't think very highly of woman or their kids. They may "treasure" them as possessions, but they are scornful of their own if they do not tow the company line (i.e. Republican hate-speak).

I agree with you. Leaving aside his choice of name (which I can't repeat here without vomiting) it really shows what he thinks of his wife...after she just underwent major trauma...not to mention the pregnancy of 9 (really 10 lunar) months. What a selfish, egotistical, narcissistic fuckwad.

This is one of those times. The fact that he called friends and family for prayer support, but didn't consult his wife, the baby's mother, tells me all I need to know.

She isn't going to want to tell people her middle names. It will have to be Sarah M.P. _____. But then everyone will ask.

Use an innocent baby--as a neon sign to showcase your political agenda.

After all, a baby is not a human being, right? A baby is a yard

What's not important, is that she'll have to constantly live with
the fact that her father had no respect for her integrity or her
humanity. What was most important to him, is that his daughter
serve as a human slogan for HIS agenda.

I can see making her middle name "Sarah", but to completely turn
this child into a "token" (his words) and a shout out to the McCain
camp--is perverse.

go get her name tattoed on her forehead. Sure it will be a great personal sacrifice to you, but if you do it for the McCain campaign it will be worth it.... oh, and I'm sure your wife and daughter probably won't mind much either.

I'm wondering how he was able to do this. In my experience, the mother MUST sign the birth certificate paperwork. How was he able to push through paperwork without her signature?
