70. It's just our resident X suporter up to his/her old tricks
See, he/she never says anything "negative" about Obama. he/she just says stuff like "I hope we can win Missouri, since we need it to win at all," and other stupidities of these kinds. For example, when asked what "upset" states were expected, he/she listed all the swing states as Mccain upsets, then listed a bunch of NEVER states as Obama upsets (i.e., tennessee). He/she thinks it is funny and cute, and is best ignored until election day, when he/she is best laughed at.

15. Why I think we need Missouri:
I am still relatively new, please bear with me :9

We won't win Ohio, but we will win Florida, so they cancel each other out. Then, I think we'll snag Tennessee, Utah and Idaho. I also think McCain can upset in Minnesota, Indiana and perhaps Nevada. Those should cancel each other out if they both wins those respectively. Missouri will push us over the edge if we win, if those above states turn out how I think.

Not a "shtick" as another poster put it, I'm only expressing my thoughts, and I'm still new.

In what universe.

I live in Tennessee and would sincerely hope that Tennessee went blue, but, I don't think it's gonna happen.

That said, there has been no new polling out of Tennessee since mid- to late September. There is no relevant gauge for Tennessee's EVs at this point.

Utah: McCain vs. Obama
Polling Data
Poll Date Sample McCain (R) Obama (D) Spread
RCP Average 08/13 - 09/11 -- 62.7 26.3 McCain +36.4
Rasmussen 09/10 - 09/10 500 LV 64 32 McCain +32
Deseret News 09/08 - 09/11 601 RV 62 24 McCain +38
Mason-Dixon 08/13 - 08/15 400 LV 62 23 McCain +39

Tennessee: McCain vs. Obama
Polling Data
Poll Date Sample McCain (R) Obama (D) Spread
RCP Average 09/15 - 09/29 -- 53.7 38.0 McCain +15.7
Rasmussen 09/29 - 09/29 500 LV 58 39 McCain +19

We've got about as good a chance of snagging those two as McCain has of snagging NY and CA.

30. FWIW, both the polling info out of Utah and Tennessee is woefully OLD.
Utah, of course, probably hasn't moved much, but Tennessee is fairly more aligned with Virginia and North Carolina than Alabama or Mississippi.

There is a chance that the polling out of Tennessee is much closer than that 9/15 polling would indicate.

38. Being new on DU doesn't mean you have to check your brains at the door.
Have you even tried looking at an electoral map?

If you had, you would realize how silly your statements are. "We won't win Ohio but we'll win Florida." Apparently you don't realize that if we win Florida that it doesn't matter WHAT happens in OH or all those other states you list, including Missouri of all places.

Obama is carrying all Kerry states. That means all he needs is Florida OR Ohio. ONE. And he doesn't even need that. He can carry NM and CO and OH and FL can go to blue blazes.

You might want to find a RW site to post your concerns on because it's MCPAIN that needs ALL the battleground states. Not us.

54. Spend some time following state polls.
A lot of your assumptions are dead wrong.

McCain is expected to win Indiana, it would not be an upset.

McCain is far likelier to win Nevada than he is Minnesota. Obama is, on average, up 5 points in Minnesota, and Minnesota has not gone red for many elections (in fact they were the only state in 1984 to give their EV's to Mondale).

Either one of Florida or Ohio is a likely instant win for Obama, given that he will almost certainly win all of the states Kerry won in 2004 (NH being the likeliest exception, but only 4 EV's) plus Iowa and New Mexico. In that scenario, adding FL is a win. Adding OH is a win. Adding VA is a win. Adding CO (almost a sure thing) is a win.

Obama has no fucking chance in Tennessee, Utah, or Idaho. Seriously, did you just try to claim he'd win in the 3 states where he polls the absolute worst?

I'm sorry, but if you want to be taken seriously in these matters, you need to do a bit to educate yourself.

45. I still disagree, but It may be you just need to learn more about
the electoral map, historically and currently.
Try playing around with one of the maps that allow the user to adjust the state "wins" and then tally the result for you.

There are usually several available, I would dig up a link for you but I have to leave for work soon.

Good luck in your learning, we all begin our search for truth and understanding within the political paradigm somewhere.

You will find the system has peculiarities, but is very easy to understand once you have studied it for a while.

I am happy people have responded. I realize Utah/Tenn/Idaho are historically republicans, but I really believe that Obama can pull the upsets there. The reason we won't win Ohio is because it NEVER works for us there and they will steal the majority of the votes.

50. I have peeped
at the polls, and I was shocked with how much Obama was down - 60 - 30% in Idaho/Utah.

If McCain holds on to win Idaho/Utah perhaps by 1-2%, then that almost makes us a shoe in to snag two other close states - Georgia and West Virginia. So then, GA and WV will cancel out Idaho/Utah.

18. All improvements or same as last time, except Missouri
Their last Missouri poll was Obama+1. Otherwise mostly the same as last time. Lead in VA is 1 point different, no difference in CO, McCain lost 1 point in FL.
