Breaking news: Secret Service investigating threat from Scranton Palin rally

The U.S. Secret Service is investigating a threatening remark directed at Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama during a political event in Scranton.

The agency followed up on a report in The Times-Tribune that a member of the crowd shouted, "Kill him!" after one mention of Mr. Obama's name during a rally Tuesday for Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

The remark came while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd at the Riverfront Sports Complex. There is no indication Mr. Hackett or Mrs. Palin, who took the stage a half-hour later, heard the remark.

The remark was reported almost immediately on the newspaper's Web site and today in the print edition.

Times-Tribune employees who covered the rally were interviewed today by the Secret Service.

Spokesman Darrin Blackford said the agency takes the threat seriously and will make an arrest if it can determine who shouted the remark.

2. quaking quivering freepers
they just realized this could be them....

Currently are looking in their rhyming dictionary to see what they can claim they were saying instead of what they actually said.

"Bill him!" Is that they've settled on, I think.

That and they will immediately accuse Obama of also saying Bill HIM! at a rally.

MSM will never question the legitimacy of "bill him", but will investigate Obama for months just to be "fair", still fooling themselves into believing their fiduciary responsibility to the GOP isn't as transparent as McKKKain's epic failure as a candidate.

3. I know teey take every threat seriously, and do their job very well,
but there are quite a number of agents present at these rallys. If the damn threats can be heard on TV and by the reporters who were there, WHY didn't the SS agents take care of the perp when he yelled his threat?

I guess I cam maybe understand them not hearing the threat that was yelloed out at yesterday's rally since it was also reported that Sagah didn't take the stage until 1/2 hr. later. The agents would have been wherre SHE WAS. I DON'T understand the first time this happened though. Sarah was on the stage at the time, but the SS still said they didn't hear the threat.

5. great, but...
this is just like going after abu gharib army privates who were encouraged to torture by actions from their leaders.
They also need to HOLD mKKKain and Pial-on responsible for their incendiary remarks. inciting riot, libel, fraud.

13. and you know because why? You couldn't unless you work for McCain or shouted it yourself.

Crowd shills are standard hires on GOP campaigns. How do you think Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove got noticed by Nixon?

17. If they aren't publicly fired then the campaign DID order it.

This person can't stay an employee and the McCain camp still say they didn't order it.

You can't have it both ways. ANY REAL AMERICAN would turn this person into the police.

8. About fucking time!
The republicans are worthless at standing up against violent threats - but the Secret Service MUST DO SOMETHING about this hate speech!

11. I'm surprised that the SS don't have some sort of video survellience of the crowd
And I'm also surprised that the journalists reporting the news wouldn't then approach the SS and point out the person shouting "Kill Him!"
