McCain's Prick Problem - He Has Come Off As A Disrepectful Jerk The First Two Debates
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 01:33 PM by Median Democrat
I am not sure I understand or agree with the commentary regarding what McCain needs to do. The pundits are saying that McCain needs to disqualify Obama, and conservatives are urging McCain to go negative and attack Obama's character. Well, I watched the last two debates, and McCain has come off like a real, disrespectful prick while Obama has come off as the mature adult candidate.

If I were offering advice to McCain, I would harken back to his best public speaking performances when he is not trying to be negative or angry. The problem I think is that Obama genuinely pisses McCain off, and the fact that McCain is being goaded by everyone to go crazy on Obama, and kick his you know what, probably does not help McCain's temperment during the debate.

I think this is why Obama is essentially goading McCain. They do internal polling. They know that McCain sounded like a prick in the first two debates. The only real surprise is if McCain actually goes positive, and focuses on the economy. This might be the surprise of the debate, and it may be the closest thing to a game changer, because the media is expecting McCain to act like a prick and bring up various smears.

So, here's my prediction for a real game changer. McCain tries to get warm and fuzzy and re-create his Rick Warren forum, which is the best I have ever seen him. THAT would throw the pundits for a loop, and not come off as desparate.

The problem for McCain is that Obama's default temperment is breezy relaxed confidence, so McCain still has a tough road to hoe if he goes down this route, but if he goes nuclear, then up goes the prick quotient.

1. McCain;s prick problem....heh.
I remember the MSM bs "Does Obama have a Catholic problem" or "Does Obama have a Hispanic problem"...I just envisioned a "Does McCain have a prick problem?" rotated segment on one of the channels, haha.

2. During Rick Warren's forum...
McCain practically gave a stump speech. He seemed at his best because he cheated (with the help of Rick Warren)

6. Not necessarily, He Wasn't Doing The Fight, Fight, Thing...
The fight, fight, fight lines are old and tired, and unconvincing. Also, it makes McCain look angry. The reason why McCain came off well during the Rick Warren forum was because he was not angry or defensive or negative. He sounded like a reasurring like a calm Grandfather who has seen it all. McCain had his zen moment. The problem for McCain is that Obama is a walking zen moment, and if McCain tries to kick Obama's you-know-what, then McCain ends up looking like a you-know-what.

13. Also, Obama wasn't sitting there at the table with him
It's easy to talk when your opponent isn't in the same room. McCain will continue to be an arrogant prick, because that is what he is.

3. John McCain's single talent is his ability to get under people's skin. The problem is ...
he can't turn it off nearly as well - esp. lately, so it seeps into almost everything he says and every gesture he makes.

7. That Was Romney Who Took The Bait, And Got Pissed
Obama does not lose his temper. Obama is not going to act like Romney. Romney got his ass kicked in the debates, because he let McCain needle him, and lost it. Obama's second debate was awesome, because when McCain tried to needle him "that one," Obama just looked cool, relaxed and confident.

11. true
I remember when McCain snapped "your hometown paper endorsed me" and Mitt said "heh....heh..." and his smile kind of disappeared. He flapped, and turned a dumb line into a zinger by his reaction. Obama shall not flap.

14. Yes - Obama does his homework and I trust him on this 100%.
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 02:06 PM by ReadTomPaine
One of Barack's greatest assets is his ability to weather these situation with grace and hit back hard in an effective way. Romney is a perfect example of McCain using his talent for being an insufferable ass to his advantage. Obama hasn't and won't fall into that trap.

On edit to make a point clear: In no way was I suggesting that Obama has or will lose his temper over this. Not sure how or where you got that impression. My post was solely about McCain's only "skill" being his nasty personality.

4. McNuts is just a very bad actor. He's been trying to be everything
his handlers tell him to be, but he just can't pull it off! For the same reason Obama can't be mean & nasty, McNuts can't be worm & fuzzy. It's just not part of their makeup!

15. What's with the pundits using language like "disqualify"
Obama(I read chuckie todd said this)? There's nothing mccain can do to make millions of people who are ready for the kind of change Obama Biden can bring ..to "disqualify" him? So why the rabid, flame baiting framing?

Fuck them and their incendiary framing.

You're right..Obama irritates mccain on so many levels without even trying that mccain can't even look at him without blowing his last gasket.

Obama will come through with what he sets out to do..and it won't be easy with schieffer and mccain.

21. The Only Question Is Whether The Moderator Does The Dirty Work?
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 05:27 PM by Median Democrat
The problem is that if the moderator brings up Ayers, then he comes looking like a shill for the McCain party. Bob could bring it up to McCain, and give McCain the option of saying whether it is relevant or not. Of course, if Bob is a shill, then he will just attack Obama with it, and it leaves McCain scott free.
