Hey, people! You don't see a pattern here?
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 02:13 PM by EffieBlack
You don't find it strange that suddenly we're being hit with the "Obama needs to repudiate and disown scary, controversial black men?" this week now that the "He's a terrorist" smear didn't work?

First it was John Lewis - who spoke the truth and, in fact didn't say anything that wasn"t being said by plenty of other people - who is being used as an excuse to beat up on Obama for "not repudiating racially incendiary accusations.".

Then yesterday, alng comes a NY Post columnist who claimed that Jackson made some questionable comments about Israel - comments that Rev. Jackson flat out denies having made - without any proof or sourcing for claiming he did anything of the sort.

The right wing blogosphere spread this like wildfire, some Democratic sites (including DU, sadly) picked it up and ran with it.

Today, the McCain campaign is all over it trying to use it to beat Obama up for comments that Rev. Jackson probably didn't make.

Don't you see what's happening? They've moved to the next phase - let's scare white people into thinking Obama is a "scary black man . . . Just look. His supporters are claiming that McCain bombed a church! Jesse Jackson speaks for him! Be scared, white people! Be scared! Who is Obama really?"

I'll bet you a dime to donuts that Rev. Wright will move up to the top of their talking points by the end of the week.

And so many of you have jumped right onto the bandwagon and are helping them spread this message!

Try to see past your - in my view - irrational hatred of Rev. Jackson and look at what they're doing. They're not only playing the race card on Obama, they suckered you into helping them deal the hand!

Please wise up to what's going on and stop playing along with it!

3. "...a NY Times columnist..." NOT!
It was the NY Post, or as Flava Flav dubbed them, the "New York Boast".

BIG difference!

But this is par for the course. This nation is being exorcised of the repuke scourge and the repuke demons are in the final stages of thrashing about until hopefully, they are silenced for good.

5. I thought they started with the "scary black man" meme....
and "angry black woman" (Michelle), then PROGRESSED to the terrorist thing, which scares more people who aren't actually racist, or not overtly so.

But you see it in reverse?

I'm confronting it daily, and I see those who would be inclined to vote for Obama being scared by the terrorist drivel rather than the "angry black man" bullshit.

Then again, I guess it all bunches up together in a big ol' racist-bigotry gumbo.

I was called a "ni**er-lovin' terrorist" at the gas station yesterday given my Obama sign on the car.

Lovely.

It's the only thing in the RNC's arsenal left.

The Republicans know that it pushes the buttons of white people whenever Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson is mentioned. Just the mention of the two men and it reveals exactly what everyone's true colors are.

Thank you for doing the fact checking and the analysis of this situation. What was demonstrated in the Rev. JJ threads is that the mob mentality is alive and well on both sides of the political spectrum. The posts about Rev. JJ read like a lynching party.

The Republicans are trying to exploit this to keep a lot of people from the polls.

Did everyone truly see the ugliness of the mob during the McCain/Palin rallies? Did that have any resonance on them as they were piling on to Rev. Jackson?

It is more important than ever to realize that Black people do not think alike and that we, like white people, are individuals with different influences.

But you see, for some, it is easier to lump us together as a community.

18. One other thing.
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 03:12 PM by political_Dem
The other thing that bothers me is the "quiet Black folks" meme. That's all this is.

They want us to be docile and quiet so that we don't voice our opinions. After all, Obama is "theirs" because he's quiet and non-reactive.

Because Rev. Jackson and Rep. Lewis is reactive, then everyone is up in arms.

Can't take it when Black people start being a little too vocal?

If one answers in the affirmative, that alone proves that the attribution to the "scary black man" meme is correct. After all, I'm surprised that no one has pronounced this thread as "race bait" and it "shouldn't be brought up at this time". :eyes:

To be vocal ventures into that "uppity meme".

And it seems that some folks are taking the bait.

25. They finally got around to reporting it
This morning, radio talk show host Joe Madison contacted Rev. Jackson, who told him that Taheri had completely distorted his comments. It was several hours later before any of the other mainstream media began questioning the truth of Taheri's column

Obama rejects column quoting Jesse Jackson on his views about Israel; so does Jackson
By Associated Press
http://www.newsday.com/news/politics/wire/sns-ap-jackson-israel,0,7480839,print.story

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign sharply rejected on Wednesday a conservative columnist's report that civil rights leader Jesse Jackson expects Obama to reduce Israel's clout at the White House.

Jackson himself denounced New York Post columnist Amir Taheri for "selectively imposing his own point of view and distorting mine" in the column that appeared Tuesday.

The column said Jackson predicted to a policy forum in France last week that "decades of putting Israel's interests first" would end and added in an interview that Zionists would lose a great deal of their clout if Obama is elected.

Obama's national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi said the column presented "vague quotes — recorded by a columnist it (the campaign) considers hostile in a tabloid newspaper it considers biased against them — from an interview with a man last publicly seen threatening to castrate Sen. Obama."

. . .
In a separate written statement, Jackson said the column was slanted "to incite fear and division."

"I stand forthrightly for the security and stability of Israel, its protection from any form of hostility and a peaceful, nonviolent resolution to coexisting with its Palestinian neighbors," Jackson said. The statement added that he "has never had a conversation with Sen. Obama about Israel or the Middle East."
