Do Not Take This Election For Granted! We Must Stop the "We've Got It Made" Talk.
We need every single person who supports Obama to actually vote for Obama. We can't afford for the public to think that Obama has already won and we don't need their vote.

We need every Obama supporter to believe that their single vote matters.

This election is not over.

I've kept my silence, but can't anymore.

There's way too much of "we've got it made" and "the election is in the bag" sentiment beginning to be expressed freely here and at other blogs.

The last thing we want is for voters to think the election will not be close and that their votes will not be needed.

The last thing we want is for volunteers to begin thinking we can slack up just a bit, to think that they are not needed as much.

The GOP is deadly when it comes to elections.

We have three weeks left.

Remember the tortoise and the hare.

I love the polls that show us up by 14 points, too.

But I don't believe them. And even if they are right, we should ignore them and not take anything for granted.

We must speak and act like we are running behind. That's what winners do.

Michelle Obama says we must "run through the tape at the finish line". Through the tape! Not just to it! Through it.

This thing is not over. We need every single vote that we can get in every state in this nation.

We must not count our chickens before they hatch.

Please.

1. Agree....
...do not the foot off the pedal, do not let them off the mat.

The election is not over until Senator Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States.

3. Agreed.
Nothing less than a BLOWOUT is acceptible.

We don't want to simply win, we want to make them cry.

Do NOT stop convincing family and friends!

4. The republicans are dying for us to relax & assume it's already over-Easier for them to steal
that way....as they slowly creep back in....

The republicans are stealing and sending misinformation via phone calls pretending to be from the Obama campaign...every vote the republicans misdirect and steal helps them a little bit more....

We must NOT rest until Obama is declared the winner on the afternoon of Wednesday November 5th 2008

5. how about adding a caveat?
Let's say, "Obama wins handily if we keep doing what we're doing and if everyone gets out and votes" ?

6. Right now we have won exactly diddley.
Its time to down shift and dig deep - knock on doors, make phone calls, offer rides o the polls, and give till it hurts. We only have ONE SHOT at turning back the republican tide that is bent on destroying our freedoms and our futures. The MSM will try to make this close enough for the republicans to steal. We can't let them. What would we pay to go back to today if they announce McCain's victory on November 5th? Lets bury the fuckers.

Yes. We. Can.

7. We can be happy to be so strongly ahead. We can making voting into an exciting moment in history
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 02:07 PM by Essene
In fact, i'd say that if the polls remain positive in the coming 2 weeks... that this sense of "inevitability" will start to become 100% positive, and only help our side's turn-out.

But it must be about voter turn-out in swing states, regardless.

Turn-out can be based on a positive sense of the outcome. Being a part of history. :)

8. LAND SLIDE
Pure and simple. McCain would have to somehow win back all the so-called red states from 2004 that are now seriously leaning blue. Can he win back some of them? Sure. But all of them? No freaking way. He's losing in just about every important state. So yes, this is a done deal.

And throughout history, landslides are actually way more common than close elections. 2000 and 2004 were outliers compared to the rest of the elections in the 20th century. EV's in the 350-400 range are common, and that's what we're looking at here.

12. "Christ on a trailer hitch"?
Most excellent, haven't heard that one before.

To your point, it's not about how to feel, it's about how to act. Whether we're happy or scared, let's GOTFV! We can all relax in, say, January, after the Sore Loser Reeps finally throw in the towel.

21. I know what you mean but it's unlikely anyone on DU is going to take this for granted and not vote.
We need to make sure those who are not as politically interested still get to the polls and make this victory happen.

24. Why? Do you think that will stop us from bothering to vote, volunteer or contribute? It won't.
Just because we are really happy about the way our chances look doesn't equate to us all sitting back and not seeing this thing through. I know I'm not and I think its sort of an insult to the intelligence and dedication to those of us who are helping work our way to victory with confidence.

25. This is the exact time
when we need to be stepping our efforts up, and getting the democratic movement into a higher gear. Doing this insures that we win the White House; make gains in both houses of Congress; plus win state and local elections.

We should never be so confident that we take anything for granted. We must be awake, alert, and active.
