Why Mccain literally cannot win tonight's debate
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 02:02 PM by Essene

Here are the things Mccain must accomplish to win:

1. Not be a negative dickhead. He has been systematically turning off most voters with the absurd attempts at character assassination. He seemed detached and like a mean little pit bull at the last 2 debates.

2. Focus on the economy in a way that's Presidential and more compelling than Obama. He cannot babble about earmarks, tax increases or other gotcha distortions. This would require a literally new economic vision and set of proposals from Mccain. And he'd have to present it without looking erratic and way behind the ball.

3. Not get caught up with the anti-intellectual hatefest energy Palin represents. He has to put forth a tone that distinguishes himself from the raw fear and hatred being held up to the light, lately.

4. Defend his attacks on Obama without compromising the above 3 goals. He has to defend his campaign's attacks without somehow looking like a dickhead, undermining the economy message or getting caught up with the Palin drivel.

5. Define a reformed GOP for folks to rally about, and to represent himself as the necessary catalyst. He's a liability for the Republicans running their own campaigns, and they literally need him to pull his weight. His "story" was to be the reforming, to be the maverick, to take them back to the glorious Reagan Revolution. If that doesn't manifest tonight, his campaign has failed.

If you agree with each point... you can see the problem for Mccain. :)

This is IMPOSSIBLE.

By the way... I think Nielsen ratings will show that Americans have made up their minds and didn't particularly care to watch this debate. I may be wrong, but even with the "say it to my face!" element of tonight's debate and all the emotion that's channeling into it... i just don't see people being that interested in the drama.

2. heh. it's really an impossible task
he's had to both galvanize the religious right cultural warrior base... and to attract the moderates.

character assassination has only back fired.

he's in deep.

i doubt most republicans will even tune in.
