Voter Registration
The CNN scrub story got me thinking about Ms. Palin and AIP. . .and voter registration.

The McCain campaign has consistently said that she was never a member of AIP, their proof, her voter registration has been R since she first registered, despite the evidence of her support for the party. Now why would that be? Upon some digging, it looks like Alaska has a wacky primary system, where some parties can choose to have a closed ballot.
Now why would ANY person who has major political aspirations want to publicly align themselves with a fringe succession organization, while at the same time eliminating themselves from running with a major party? Answer is they wouldn't. She may have never been a member on paper, but I do think she saw this as her chance to play both sides of the fence. She is smart enough to know that they would probably never successfully succeed from the Union, but if they were somehow able to do it, this set her up nicely to be perhaps president of Alaska, and if not, she still had her eye on that governors mansion(not that she liked living there anyhow, can anyone say fraudulent per diem pay?)
