OMG It's has started.. The rich people are freakin out over Obama win
I said I wasn't going to go to any of my message boards.. it's too ugly right now and I'm tired of fighting.

But I went anyway and the doctor's wife is freaking because if Obama is president... they will have to close down their business and move to a third world country, because if they are going to do medicine for free, they would rather do it in a country that needs it lmao

You know the usual, the taxes will be so high etc. She said she doesn't understand giving tax cuts to middle class...

i responded with all of our financial hardships especially the last four years and told her SHE voted for Bush and we have barely survived.. my dad is out of work, my mom was always a sahm, and now half of their 401k is gone. Told her if your middle class is doing good we all do good. That stores and businesses are closing shop left and right because the middle class has no extra income to buy things. That the whole give rich people money and hope it trickles down to the middle class is crock. I said that we are always told by republicans you have to give tax cuts to the rich because then they have money to create jobs, but this doesn't work because we are all going broke and therefore can't buy their products and they are laying off people because of low sales.

Wake me up when election is over

I would even be willing to chip in for the one-way airfare.

11. Greed is a powerful motivator.
And there are many wealthy people like these two who just can't understand why the middle class would need a tax break. They believe the repub spin about the middle class not paying taxes because that makes it easier to justify their greed.

22. The answer remains the same: Greed.
I know what you're talking about because I hear it all the time and its usually the least likely to become wealthy who say it. Still, they're willing to believe lies if those lies bolster their overarching desire for more money.

5. Tell her that since Hoover, every Dem president has been better
At job creation and economic growth than every single Republican president. The best they have doesn't even equal the least successful Dem. The last presidents to balance a budget were Clinton and Carter and Reagan and the two Bushes created more national debt than every single president in our history combined.

8. Don't be too hard on them
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 04:46 PM by Downtown Hound
In the back of their minds the rich always know that they don't really know how to do anything themselves. If the current system came crashing down they'd be the first ones to die off, because nobody would be around to take care of them. On some level they know this, and they're terrified of it.

The insanity of them is that they actually think that an Obama presidency is going to be the death of capitalism as we know it. Obama is at best a centrist. It's just that anybody slightly to the left of Bush is a commie in these people's minds.

12. The selfish rich. I posted an article recently that showed that every very affluent zip code...
in the country now votes Dem. These are educated people who know what's good for the country as a whole, and who care about other than themselves. Then there are the selfish rich -- I know quite a few -- who think only of themselves. Their only interest in our country and in voting is in getting their taxes as low as possible. That's all they care about. They are narrow, selfish, and some of the most unattractive people on earth. A friend of mine says that not only do they want money, they want to be sure others don't have it.

If they had sense, even in their selfishness, they would realize that if this ship goes down, we all go with it.

Shame on them!

17. “THE PARTY WITH THE BEST RECORD OF SERVING REPUBLICAN ECONOMIC VALUES IS THE DEMOCRATS,

1). FEDERAL SPENDING: since 1960 Republicans increased Federal Spending by 71% more than have Democrats

2). FEDERAL DEBT: since 1960 Republicans have increased the National debt by 100% more per year than have Democrats.

3). GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT: since 1921, adjusted for inflation, Democrats out-produce Republicans by 43% . Starting in 1940 the Democratic advantage is 23% better.

4). REAL PER CAPITA INCOME: since 1960 Democrats have outperformed Republicans by 30%. (This is perhaps the most important economic statistic of all)

5). INFLATION: since 1960, Democrats outperform Republicans 3.13% to 3.89%

6). UNEMPLOYMENT: since 1960 it decreases in an average Democratic year by 0.3% to 5.33%, and increases in average Republican year by 1.1% to 6.38%.

7). JOB CREATION: from 1945 to 2003, Democrats produced 174,200 jobs per month, Republicans have only produced 60,600 per month. Every time a Democrat succeeds a Republican, job creation soars. Every time a Republican succeeds a Democrat job creation plummets. NO EXCEPTIONS!

8). DOW JONES AVERAGE: since 1921 the DOW has increased by 52% more under Democratic administrations

9). THE BOND MARKET: since 1940 the value of 10 year Treasury bonds rose 1.2% under Democrats and fell 0.5% under Republicans

18. Canvassing in Nevada, I came across a man like this...
He told me, with a straight face, that he had just started to "get rich" and was afraid that if the Dems get in, they will take all his money. No kidding. He said that he supports all the other social issues the Dems hold dear, but that he might vote repuke b/c Obama will take his money.

<sigh>

What could I do? I told him what I could about Obama's policies, pointed him to Paul Krugman, and told him the most egregious things about Sarah Palin I could think of, SCOTUS, etc. I think I may have gotten through, but wow! did I want to slam my head against the wall...

29. Guys, the math isn't hard, even rich imbeciles should be able to get it.
Let's say, for example, that this woman's husband/doctor earns $300,000/year during an Obama presidency (assuming his tax plan passes in Congress).

His taxes will remain the same EXCEPT that his tax rate for his earnings OVER $250,000 will be taxed at 39% instead of 36%.

SO -- this means that he will pay $1500 *MORE* in income tax than he would have paid in a Bush third term.

If these people are unwilling to pay an extra $1500 per year to help undo the damage done by 28 years of Reaganomics, then the US is better off if they *DO* leave the country. I am willing to pay $1500 more per year and I earn 1/3 what this hypothetical doctor earns.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, REMIND EVERYONE, Democrat OR Republican, WE'VE GOT TO STOP WASTING $10+ BILLION PER MONTH IN IRAQ!!! OUT *NOW!*
