A friend of mine's father passed away today and I know he voted early because he knew he had cancer and may not live to November.

so now the question is what happens to the vote?

4. I have been told in the past it will count.
We debated that for my mom. She was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. But she will be here and well enough to go.

9. My best to your Mom
I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 18 months ago and am still OK, not good but certainly not bad. Seems I hear more and more of cancer of the pancreas or I'm just more aware of hearing it now.

17. Thank you. And only best thoughts to you. I am very happy that you're still OK.
Seems like there is a lot of it for a "rare" cancer.

5. It should be counted
The vote is locked in because it was cast by a legal voter before election day, even if the person isn't alive for said election day.

14. It's counted
If anyone has an Obama voting friend or family member in this situation, you may want to help them get that early ballot.

16. It depends on the state. This article says
Several states — including California, Texas, Tennessee and the presidential battlegrounds of Ohio and West Virginia — specifically allow absentee votes from those who die before the election. This patchwork of state laws also means two identical sets of circumstances can lead to very different results.

Take the hypothetical of two Fort Campbell soldiers who cast absentee ballots and were killed in the same incident overseas. The vote of the soldier who lived on the Tennessee side of the base would be counted. The vote from the soldier who lived on the Kentucky side should be pulled because an attorney general's opinion in that state says those ballots should be tossed.

But such opinions are not legally binding — allowing the Christian County, Ky., clerk to count them with impunity.

They also note that the way you vote early makes a difference. Once you vote on a machine in Florida it's there... but if you mail in a ballot and die before election day it can be withdrawn

Early voting compounds problem of 'ghost' votes getting through

It would feel so sad if someone really cared and voted early and then dies and it didn't count. It is kind of like ignoring a last wish...like that elderly lady that Hillary talked about who was so thrilled to vote for a woman in the primary and did it just hours before she passed away...but when they learned of it the ballot was tossed.
