The Difference Between Obama and McCain Speeches and Debates In A Nutshell
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 06:41 PM by Median Democrat
Listening to Obama makes you feel smarter. Obama understands the nature of the crisis, and the possible solutions, so he can calmly and clearly explain why we are in the mess we are in, what we need to get out. In the second debate, Obama explained the credit crisis's impact to Oliver, and his explanation made us feel smarter and more relaxed because we then knew what was going on.

Listening to McCain makes you feel angry and fearful. McCain does not explain. He just rants against "those greedy Wall Street types," liberals and the media. However, there is no explanation. McCain just repeatedly tells you that "I know how to fix the economy," but he does not explain how. Worse, since he tells you to fear the media, you learn to keep yourself ignorant, and to reject any sources of information that have not been blessed by the campaign. When Obama explains that McCain's policies are the same as Bush's, McCain never explains how they are different. Thus, after listening to McCain, you feel very angry at Wall Street, the MSM, liberals, and Obama, but you feel fearful, because you are not given any understanding as why we are in the mess we are in, or what is the solution. Instead, McCain just provides a long list of scapegoats.

If a listener is stupid, stubborn or both, then he is not listening to Obama or you don't understand his description of global economy. Thus, at the end, he may feel more bewildered, angry and fearful, which helps fuel his fear and rage, and Palin is there ready to provide a long list of boogeymen to fear and hate.

There is a reason why oppressive regines often denied education to the oppressed. There is a reason why it is fundamental plank of the GOP to encourage their members to ignore the mainstream media, and to derive their information from propaganda sources like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.
