Palin's press avoidance shocks Maria Shriver - says its "Jawdropping"
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 06:46 PM by RamboLiberal
California first lady Maria Shriver - whose father, Sargent Shriver, ran for both president and vice president - said she finds it "unbelievable, jaw-dropping" that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin so far has managed to sidestep news conferences and Sunday TV talk shows.

Shriver, a prominent veteran broadcast journalist and bestselling author who is married to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, is preparing to interview and talk with dozens of international newsmakers, politicians and celebrities at her popular Women's Conference on Oct. 21 and 22 at the Long Beach Convention Center.

She quizzed Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama last year at the annual event. But she said Palin, running mate of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, will not be present to address the conference audience, estimated to reach 15,000 women in the convention center and as many as 1 million women who will watch it on the Internet.

"Actually, we did play around with that," Shriver told The Chronicle in a phone interview Tuesday. But "if one wants to do that, the real issue was that you'd have to do it (an interview) in a no-holds-barred way.

"So let's just say she's not coming," Shriver said.

Asked about her reaction - as a journalist and a member of a political family - to Palin's failure to do a formal news conference or a Sunday talk show with just three weeks left in the campaign, Shriver called it "jaw-dropping."

1. There's certainly been a different set of rules for Palin.
Her handlers took W's protective bubble approach and went even further. :eyes:

The host said that one person in her house was going to go to bed unhappy on election night, and she said "Yes, and I know who that person is going to be!"

4. Palin's going to pull it off, too.
She's not going to appear on anything right up past the election. How is it that we can allow that?

5. Maybe it's good that Palin isn't there.

Maria has faults of her own, but even she ought to realize that Palin doesn't care about women. In fact, Palin is a poor representative of womankind, except for the fact that she has a pair of ovaries.

6. I won't say it, even though I'm a stinker tonight. Let's just say I agree with Maria.
I will move on. I am stronger than this.

9. Totally agree. This woman could end up being POTUS and she has not faced the national press corps.
Shocking and unacceptable.
