I'm so frazzled. Somebody, please talk me down!
I was just at the P.O., trying to fill out 8 forms for 4 separate certified mailings, including a couple items for the IRS. All of a sudden, the other woman at the table -- middle aged, like me -- began to talk to me about how my taxes would go up if I voted for the wrong person.

I said that I cared more about my two sons not going to Iraq or Iran than about what happens to my taxes. I was just going to let it go at that, but she wouldn't stop. She said that's why we have an all-volunteer army. I said it couldn't remain that way if we started another war. She said we have to defend against "terrorists," I said they were in Afghanistan, not Iraq, she said they can come from anywhere -- ARGHGH!!!

I won't go into the rest of our long, heated, exchange, but she's convinced that McCain is essential to our national security and that Sarah Palin is WONDERFUL! A BREATH OF FRESH AIR! And SMART! And that Obama has NEVER DONE ANYTHING. At one point she walked away, saying we would never agree (DUH), but then she came back to argue some more -- while I'm still struggling to fill out the forms.

I hope I didn't mail the wrong thing somewhere. I feel like I should take a shower. Or some blood pressure medication.

Help! Stop me before I eat all the Halloween candy!

3. Ask her if she makes over $250,000 per year
...after deductions that is. If she doesn't tell her she will pay less taxes under Obama. Ask her if she plans on using Medicare some day, because McCain plans to cut over $1.5 trillion from it. Ask her if she expects Social Security because McCain wants to privatize it and let Wall Street guys like me take care of it.

10. The problem is she doesn't respond to reason.
Or she wouldn't be backing McCain/Palin.

11. I concur
Eat 2 fun size almond joys and a handful of sweet tarts and chill...

She's obviously brainwashed, and needs to be under professional care, but what can you do? You should have clamped your hands over your ears and started singing "mary had a little lamb...lalalala...I can't hear you..."

That would have shut her up.

5. Hang in there, friend
They are desperate.

You and I have often not seen eye to eye on sub-issues, but I know we're on the same team. And this time we're going to win.

Now get out of the candy corn before we have to come over there with the insulin.

6. First, tell her you love your country more than you love your money. Then ask her how far
down the list of possible terrorist targets your town in Washington State is and point out that the people who live in New York, Washington D.C., L.A., Chicago etc etc all vote overwhelmingly for Democrats

Then don't worry about any of it. If she thinks Palin is smart then she is stupid. No person with anything resembling average intelligence can think of Palin as smart

8. If you vote for the wrong person your taxes will go up.
So don't vote for McCain.

We have to defend ourselves against the terrorists & those who support them.

So don't vote for McCain.

We have to maintain our national security & rebuild our economy.

So you CAN"T VOTE FOR McCAIN!

9. I need a cigarette after reading that.
I got into it with some guys from Rotary the other day. We had a speaker from an anti-union amendment group that's on the ballot. He was talking about how it's a burden to taxpayers to have to take dues out of paychecks. I said, "No it's not. I have to set up every single check anyway with garnishments and TSAs and 401Ks and everything else - the union dues is actually one of the easier ones." They argued that we shouldn't have to do it at all and that it takes more time than I think. I said, "Well, I have over 600 employees . . . how many do you have?" That shut them up pretty well.

But I was so upset later I had to have a smoke and I've really been trying to quit. This election is just hurting me with that.

12. I have over 100 unopened emails because I'm getting bogged
down in life - but don't have time to open up the ones that I have to send to 25 people for good luck.
Then I began getting new notes from a friend (rep) who i used to work with years ago..

Of course they were hate emails about Obama....I have not sent one hate mail about McCain...I have better things to do.

I just want to write and say if you want 4 more years of this shit go ahead and vote for McCain.....She lives in a 350,000 and I happen to know they have lost alot at Fidelity (we do go to the same Fidelity man - he doesn't talk about our accounts but she had to lose just like me).

So even though my blood pressure is rising..I'm taking the person's advise and having a glass of wine.

I just can't imagine having Cruella for a first lady (McCains blond trophy with the shiny clothes..that probably turn into something to help heer fly her broom.

21. I get upset too. Not with people I disagree with but,,,,
... but I get all riled up by folks who use spurious logic and untruths and who are so fervent as they grasp at straws to defend something that makes them feel good about themselves. It's a bit like hearing a junkie talk themselves into one more fix. You engage somebody assuming that reason and rules of civil discourse will be used, and they use the words of reason to defend some desperate passion. And it all comes too fast to address all the fallacies and false assumptions. Then you get this tightening sensation in the chest and it's as if you are being physically assaulted. Well, that's how it is for me when I encounter the Fox News version of reason and discourse. It's got nothing to do with you.

I probably would have said something like, "Yeah, like those separatist types from Alaska in that group Sarah's husband belongs to" in response to her claim that the terrorists can come from anywhere.

You did fine, and you'll be fine! Just watch Obama shine tonight and forget that ignorant fool at the P.O.

31. Here's the answer.
Lower the lights. Get your self a glass of wine, maybe a beer if you prefer, and listen to some music. Classical is good for clearing those hurtful words from repeating in your head. One of my favorites is Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherezade, but the choice is up to you. Heck, if you don't have a classical collection, tune in public radio.

If you like contemporary, easy listening. Then America may be your ticket to peace. Try this tune:

Tin Man

Sometimes late when things are real
And people share the gift of gab between themselves
Some are quick to take the bait
And catch the perfect prize that waits among the shelves

But oz never did give nothing to the tin man
That he didnt, didnt already have
And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of sir galahad.

So please believe in me
When I say Im spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain bright color
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsuds green like bubbles

Oh, oz never did give nothing to the tin man
That he didnt, didnt already have
And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of sir galahad

So please believe in me
When I say Im spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain bright color
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsuds green like bubbles

No, oz never did give nothing to the tin man
That he didnt, didnt already have
And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of sir galahad

34. I'm so sorry that happened...
...I had to go to the doctor today, and I was SO nervous.

Then, as I drove into Austin (the only(?) blue area in TX), I was stuck in traffic behind 2 cars with Obama stickers...felt much better!

My doctor visit went well, and on the way home I was stuck behind a TX DEMOCRAT sticker-ed car! :~)

Take a drive around town and look for Obama signs/stickers (if you're in the Blue)! You may be lucky like me!

I love Austin!
