Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 10:32 PM by Feeney2
McLame was talking about plans that allow it and damn, I've never heard that. And see what plan you get with $5000. His average payment of $5800 sounds wrong, also.

And you know McCain wasn't talking about cleft palates when he was dismissing cosmetic surgery.

21. Plans increasingly classify those as 'elective,' too
Health care costs are so ridiculous, every day I have difficult conversations with patients about what their insurance doesn't cover. Health care is now the leading cause of bankruptcy among insured Americans.

17. The ONLY cosmetic surgery that insurance would pay for would
be in the case of a child born with a correctable birth defect, or to treat someone who had been injured in a fire or other accident.

I've never heard of ANY insurance policy paying for elective cosmetic surgery.

My employer pays the whole premium, copays are low, and I am very lucky to have such a great plan. But my plan does not cover elective cosmetic procedures (not sure about corrective plastic surgery, like for breast cancer).

45. He also threw in "transplants" as bad, bad, bad
I think he was trying, in his feeble way, to make another hair transplants crack on Joe Biden, but he just said, "cosmetic surgery and, er, transplants."

I would like him to clarify this remark. Does he mean all transplants, or what?

After all, he doesn't think women's lives are important enough to terminate a pregnancy that will kill them, so why should he care about lung, heart, kidney, liver, cornea, marrow, or other organ or tissue transplants?

What a fucking freakshow loser that guy is.

46. My husband and I have one of those gold-plated Cadillac health care
policies. It's provided through his employer, but we pay a hefty bit each paycheck, too. And it does cover some plastic surgery, but my husband is an amputee and any work he has through the plastic surgeon is actually reconstructive and medically necessary.

BTW, if my hubby retires before Medicare eligibility, our insurance will be $3000/month. And we have no option, because he has a preexisting condition and no other insurance company will pick him up. How well do you think we'll do under McCain's health plan?

I am aware of policies that won't pay for a wig if you have chemotherapy and lose your hair. I think, for women especially, it should be covered as a prosthesis, but apparently it's considered merely cosmetic.

51. Here's some cosmetic surgery that your nosy Federal Government requires
that your health insurance provide:

if you have health insurance, your carrier must pay for breast reconstructive surgery. The 1998 Federal Breast Reconstruction Law requires all health insurance companies to cover reconstruction of the breast on which mastectomy has been performed, and surgery and reconstruction of the other breast to produce a symmetrical appearance.

http://www.healthywomen.org/healthtopics/breastreconstruction

Gee, do you suppose this law was passed because all insurance companies were already covering this?
