Bin Laden is going to be Captured Right Before the Election
For all you naysayers who doubted that Bush would stoop so low as to pull an "October Surprise"...

Official Says U.S. Capture of bin Laden Close
By MATTHEW PENNINGTON, AP

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (Sept. 4) - The United States and its allies have moved closer to capturing Osama bin Laden in the last two months, a top U.S. counterterrorism official said in a television interview broadcast Saturday. Bin Laden and his top associate, Ayman al-Zawahri, are believed to be hiding along border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"If he has a watch, he should be looking at it because the clock is ticking. He will be caught," Joseph Cofer Black, the U.S. State Department coordinator for counterterrorism, told private Geo television network.

Asked if concrete progress had been made during the last two months - when Pakistan has arrested dozens of terror suspects including some key al-Qaida operatives - Black said, "Yes, I would say this."

From: AP

I hate to say it folks, but if the chimp rolls out bin Laden before the election, the race is over. There's no way around it.

Interesting, excuse me and accept my apologies for not seeing it.

Wow people are really hostile around here lately.

2. Cofer Black is an asshole and a liar.
Read James Bamford's Pretext to War. Cofer Black is lying just like he always does.

A better question: are Dubya and Poppy simply asking all their friends in the bin Laden family where Osama is hiding out?

The Bushes and bin Ladens have been friends and business associates for nearly twenty years. The connections between Bush, the Saudi Royal Family and the bin Laden family are extensive and well-documented. In fact, on the morning of September 11th, 2001, GHW Bush was in a secret Carlyle Group meeting in NYC with bin Laden's brother.

Also interesting is that bin Laden's brother was killed in a "freak" plane accident near the Bush ranch in Texas in the 1980s.

7. It's too late for Osama to have an impact
on this election. If the idiot-in-chief had not taken resources away from Afghanistan, Osama could have been caught a long, long time ago. Meanwhile, we have lost almost 1000 soldiers in Iraq.

Nope...Osama won't matter now.

I have to disagree, and so does the Kerry campaign. The campaign has already formed a "Doomsday Team" to take action in the event of a bin Laden capture. Unfortunately it's not going to be enough.

9. The secret plan
A few days before the election, some fat general will announce to great fanfare and a battlefield video that Osama bin Laden has been captured in Pakistan and is being interrogated a secret location. Bush + Co. will appear proud and elated, telling the country that the world is safer thanks to the fascist leadership of his administration. The voters will swoon, Bush will be re-elected by a landslide. A few days after the election the press secretary to the fat general will announce that, after extensive genetic testing, the captured terrorist was determined, after all, to not be Osama bin Laden, unfortunately. It was just an honest case of mistaken identity. Oh well, Iraq didn't have WMDs either but Americans are stupid and powerless, so this lie won't matter either.

Four more years of Bush and we won't even need the futile exercise of elections anyway.

13. The capture of Osama (if real) could backfire horribly.
Not just because a lot of people will roll their eyes and say, "Oh, suuuure, they just caught him. Yeah, right before the election? Ha." The really bad thing might be that Osama has given his people orders that if he is caught or killed, they are to blow up something really big.

16. It's not like they are waiting for Osama to get captured/killed
There are plenty of people with a beef against the US who would like to blow up something big RIGHT NOW but they just lack the means and/or opportunity. That situation isn't going to change with the death or capturre of Osama.

23. Now, that is brilliant...
...horrible to consider, though.

A capture of Bin Ladin within a week of the election would win it for Shrub, I hate to say.

But remember, the ones who can roll on Bin Ladin are the Saudis, they are quite comfortable with Shrub. That is what is so sad.

12. I'd think there would be a collective groan
in the media if Osama is caught now. It's too late. It looks like politics, and it is.

15. bush has promised the royal family that
Osama will not be hurt. He will not be caught too risky. Lose the Saudi oil. that is why bush abandoned the war in Afghanistan. the family doesn't want him hurt.

18. MHO, he won't be captured alive
Perhaps he is already dead and they are waiting for the right moment to parade his corpse.

However, if he is not, he won't allow himself to be captured alive, nor will his crazy followers.

19. No way. If they get obl, who is gonna be the big, bad terror boogey-man?
They do not have anyone to fill his sandals, in the boogey-man department. They have tried to build some of those other clowns up in the media, but no one can even remember their names.

If they drag obl out of his cave (or out of one of his brother's basements, more like), the terror war is over. To keep it going, you would have to have something else happen like 911, and I think that may be a little harder to pull off, next time...a lot of people are watching, now. People in govt. and out of govt. who do not like Bush.

If they capture obl, the fog of fear will lift from people like the sun just came up, and that fear is Bush's strongest lick...he is completely screwed without it, because that is when people look at the economy, healthcare, the unnecessary war in Iraq, etc..., and realize just how far down the toilet he has flushed us.

And even if I am wrong about every bit of that, what lasting good did it do Bush to capture Saddam? Not one damn bit. And if he does it two days before the election, it will backfire.

No hope, and no help for that monkey...he is going DOWN.

21. Hell at this rate they should save him until 2008
If Kerry doesnt soon do something they wont need him in 2004, they might as well save him for McCain in 2008.

22. I wonder if he never lived through it all
He is a very sick man and he could have died but they want to keep the image alive. I don't see it doing any good unless the capture him alive.
