Here should be our new rallying crying: Just pull the big "D" lever (or press the button)

I look at some of these red 'pink' states on EV and these are states that have US Senators running who are popular incumbant democrats.

Max Baucus is a democrat from Montana and he's almost 30pts in front of his poll but Obama lags by 6 points - Just pull the "D" lever and be done.

Jay Rockefeller is also around 30 points ahead in his West Virgina poll but Obama is about dead even - Just pull the "D" lever and be done!

We also have Democrats doing well in a few solid red states like South Dakota (Tim Johnson is ahead by +25), Arkansas (Mark Pryor is running unopposed) and Louisianna (Mary Landrieu is ahead by +14).

We need to get the message across that everyone should be voting STRAIGHT D

:woohoo:

1. Unfortunately many machines don't include the presidency in party line voting
Or so I've heard.

3. That is the case in SC
a party line vote DOES NOT include the Presidential race

6. That's why I said 'Push the big button'
I believe in Delaware I can vote straight "D". I remember doing it in the past

I think it depends on if you have multi-seat races like City Council. That might keep me from voting the "D" button this year.

7. On some electronic voting machines, some races aren't on the straight ticket.
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 11:07 AM by gkhouston
And if you vote for someone individually after you've voted the straight ticket and that candidate was on the straight ticket, it toggles and cancels out your vote for that candidate. Anyone who votes straight ticket needs to check the summary page to be sure that it says what they mean for it to say.

on edit: For example, if I voted straight Dem in my area, the ballot would indicate a vote for Obama. However, there's one race not on the straight ticket, so I *must* record an individual vote for that one particular race if I want to see the Dem elected. However, if I get tap-happy and vote for Obama individually after I've voted the straight ticket, the machine will decide I've voted twice in that particular race and record zero votes for Obama. When I get to the summary screen, I'd be able to see that I hadn't voted in the presidential contest and I could back up and vote for Obama yet again to make everything come out right.

8. Actually, I think RFK jr had an article recently saying to mix things up.
Vote individually for candidates and even for a green or indy on a down ticket race. Apparently it's too easy to toss out or alter ballots that are 'straight ticket'. Not that the sentiments are invalid, but we need to make it as hard as possible for the 'stealers'.

9. California doesn't have a party line
you have to hunt all over the ballot to find Dems (or Repubs for that matter).

10. In North AND South Carolina, doing so results in an undervote for president

The presidential contest must be separately voted in NC and SC.

Ummm... Lynne... read this:

http://www.knoxstudio.com/shns/story.cfm?pk=MISCOUNT-FINAL-12-22-04&cat=AN

Both North Carolina and South Carolina historically suffer unusually high undervotes in presidential elections because, by state law, voters who mark the "straight-party-ticket voting" option must also vote separately for president. Every four years, tens of thousands of voters in both states apparently forget to do this.

Full election data is not yet available from South Carolina, but in North Carolina this year 58,223 ballots failed to register a presidential vote.

Ouch.

11. love your enthusaisam but the Big D brings up different things
for me:-)

In boarding school, the big D was the Disciplinary Committee....

I remember getting sent up to the Big D after cutting classes to sneak over to the boys school to get my first kiss.

The Big D made me scrub the arches outside the school for 3 months every Friday afternoon.

Damn Big D!

But I still like your rally cry!

(in a special note of irony, I went to same school as Mittens....though he was there long before I. I'd sure love to see his face if we went on the cry "Go for the Big D!" oh, dear. The things that bring me pleasure now....)
