Challenge to all you DU'ers: Spend time working for Democratic win in Nov

It occurred to me how much time I was spending on the DU recently. I noticed I have let up on the one very large thing I was doing before coming to DU. I spent most of my time on line since last December (maybe longer) reading articles and emailing snipits to people who I know lean or are deep republican. I was spending 2 - 3 hours a day (avg) compiling emails and sending them.
I am sure that my republican Friends don't mind.
Since coming into the DU, I have been concentrating much of my time reading and responding to articles here, I assume it because I find it friendly here and I don't usually get into a debate with someone. But this is not good, I'm letting up. I know that I have changed the minds of at least 2 people and even persuaded one person, who never voted before, to go out and register voters themselves, I have unleashed a mean green voter registrar. I can do more though!

The Challenge: I would like each of the DU'ers here to think about how much time you spend here in our comfort zone. Then get out of your political comfort zone and motivate people, convert people, convince people.
Use what ever means you have, Email people, Email the media, Call people, Talk to everyone you meet (ask them what they think about, Energy, Employment, Education, or Iraq).
I don't want to chase anyone away from the DU but, in the next 56 days we all need to spend as much time selling John Kerry and other Democratic candidates as we do on DU. (maybe some of you already do)
If we all spend this much time on other efforts we will make a difference.

Lets get the vote out for the Democrats!

this mission is too important for us to allow Kerry to jeopardize it.

I will be registering 4 -5 days a week from now until the election.
It is invigorating to get out and register people, especially the first time voters. Today I registered someone that will be 18 in October!

It is also good to interact with those that say they are voting for Bush.ALWAYS, ALWAYS,ALWAYS wear your Kerry button and have extras in your pocket to give away.

This is my gem for today: I was in the Mall talking with a friend of mine, we were walking in the Berger King with our Kerry Buttons on.

A middle aged man very nicely told me that he was voting for Bush. He was wearing a "Jesus is Love" Tee Shirt.

He told me that," Bush loved Jesus and Kerry does not talk about Jesus." I asked him how he knows that to be so(the best way to talk to this kind of person is to ask them a thought provoking question right back)
He said, " Kerry didn't talk about God the way that Bush does."
My response was, "and if Kerry told you that Jesus was his personal savior would that make you vote for Kerry?"
He said "No, Bush was like Jesus!"

I remained calm and gave him back some of the Born Again terms...

I said , " Jesus is my personal savior and my Bible teaches me that Jesus loves everybody, the same God that watches over Bush watches over ME and my 85 year old mother and Sen. Kerry. "

I calmly continued, "Do you think Jesus loves my 85 yr. old mother with diabetes?" He said yes.

So I continued," well if Jesus loves my sick mother then he would want her to be cared for don't you think."

Then I came in for the zinger... "Is you mother alive? That is wonderful, you are blessed,may I be honest with you?"

He said yes, I said," Jesus loves my precious mother and he loves your mother too. Kerry wants to give your mother quality health care, Bush doesn't! Think about that and when you go to the polls and vote, think about your mother, my mother and millions of others who Kerry will look out for. Kerry is on God's side! Bush talks about God all day but does he walk with all of God's children? In my heart, I believe he does not!"

The man hugged me! I hugged him back!

As he was leaving I said again(the words of the Christian Right), "Jesus is my personal Savior, praise the Lord and Bless You and your family!"

Nothing like using their craziness against them.

Before this election comes to a close, please register voters at a location at least one time. It is true democracy in action.

Most of us do.

It doesn't make us any better or worse.

Here's a challenge. Let's all write one letter per day - a hard copy letter not an email - to a newspaper. If you can do more, great, but if every one of us wrote just one letter each day to a newspaper think of the impact!

We are smarter than Republicans. We don't need to use pre-written letters. We can write our own letters.

adn with all the time spent and all i have read and learned,........it is now twomonths, time to get out there, and am i ready. anyone can throw me anything from any direction adn i can hand them the truth. voting for bush cause hero of 9/11, lets talk it. cause support troop with war in iraq, let me tell you why you are exactly not supporting troops voting for bush. lowering taxes, wrong. senior health care, to pharmacutical companies and friday raise premium. jobs.......worse job record since hoover. lies i know them. crooks i know it

so yes it is time to get out there, but this board has really put me in a good and confident place to talk to people

Great post! We need to take some of the amazing energy expended here and put it on the street...THAT will make the difference...not preaching to the choir! :-)
