Spanish-language McCain commercials scaring Latinos
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 08:07 AM by spooky3
The guy who owns the lawn care service I use is Salvadoran (has been here for 20 years), and when he saw my Obama/Biden yard sign today he struck up a conversation. He was undecided (aaagggh!) because he thinks they are all "liars". He also thought Obama was going to eliminate all taxes on people under $250K and thought that would be disastrous. I explained what the plan really was and to my surprise he said, "well, that would make sense. That would be ok." He then asked me what I thought of the McCain ads that said Obama and Hugo Chavez were close buddies and that worried him. I said I hadn't seen those. Turns out they are being shown only on the Spanish-language TV and radio stations here (NoVA, where there is a large Latino population from South & Central America). He said there is fear of Chavez, because it is believed he is using money that should go to help the people, to go to China and buy weapons. He said many people viewed him like Castro, or worse, which would explain why McCain is trying to play on those fears. He did not mention any Obama ads responding to this BS. I speak only a little Spanish and do not watch/listen to these stations.

Anyone know anything about this?

2. I hadn't heard this
I will mention to our field organizer. We have a large number of Hispanics in our area and I'm not sure how the outreach has been to that community.

4. K&R. This is scary.
Not speaking much Spanish, I don't watch much AztecaTV, Univision, Galavision, or Telemundo, which are the primary variety Spanish language/programming stations from US or Mexico where I live.

6. McCain's commercials are failing in Spanish too. My friends and patients
always say: "No queremos al viejito" (we don't want the little old man")y "se va a morir y la puta loca hundira este pais" ("he will die and the crazy b*tch/whore will sink this country")

So, Obama will get a tidal wave of Hispanic votes, near 65-70% is my prediction.
