**** OFFICIAL THANK YOU NBC FOR SMACKIN' HER DOWN THREAD ****
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 12:11 AM by crappyjazz
Alec Baldwin got to say to her face "awful, horrible woman"

Palin had to watch Tina act like the idiot Sarah is

She had to call herself "Caribou Barbie"

Palin had to say she wasn't taking questions from the fake press corp

The extreme close up (FIX News will LOVE that!)

Josh Brolin as guest host and cracks about his new movie about a politician "No Country for Old Men", the move about McCain

Oliver Stone makes an appearance

The rap complete with "Taaaadd" in a snowmobile suit, a dancing moose that gets shot ...

They completely slapped the bitch's accent off in front of a national audience.

A well placed Obama ad

I bet she is too stupid to be seething mad right now ... but you can be sure McCain is

*updating as reminders come in*

2. I wonder what she did think about it- I'm not sure she's not seething mad too-
There's no way to predict with her- sometimes she really does seem to be extremely smart- and other times - not so much. Her self confidence is amazing however- she must have known she was not exactly in friendly territory.

39. William F.Buckley was sometimes funny. Also PJ o'Rourke used to be funny in the 80's in RollingStone
Someone will bring up Dennis Miller who was only ever funny when he had democrats like Barry Crimmins writing for him.

But as Alan King was fond of saying, there aren't any stupid comedians, there are some that act stupid but you have to be smart to be funny.

Palin really isn't that level of funny and the only way she would have pulled this off would have been to do the Rap herself w/o the pretense.

6. You forgot the Obama ad DURING the show!!!
The one where McCain says that he's not Bush, then proceeds to say that he voted with Bush 90% of the time, more than most of his fellow republicans.
Not sure if it was a local or national ad buy, but if it was a national buy, it was simply brilliant!

12. They did get her pretty good.
I'm surprised she went along with it all. Maybe she doesn't get it? At the same time, she seemed pretty pissed most of the time, so maybe she just went along with it begrudgingly? It was strange. She definitely didn't seem happy. I agree with some of the others, that it seems like there's more to the story. I can't wait to hear what Palin's version of it is. "The evil media elite took advantage of me, did you see how they treated me, boohoo, vote for me."

22. SNL did nothing special in "smacking her down." That's SNL's job ... they bring pols on and mock 'em
And, sorry, but ya' gotta give props to pols who are willing to come on and be mocked to their faces. I can't STAND Sarah Palin ... she's a hypocrite, a liar, a hatemonger, a bad VP choice, you name it. But, just like Hillary was willing to come and stand next to Amy Poehler while she was imitated (and not in a flattering way), Sarah was willing to come on and take her medicine. And she did fine (she used to be a sports broadcaster, so that's no surprise).

Once again ... I CANNOT STAND HER. But I'm willing to give props to her for grooving along to a rap that insulted her, had a giant moose "shot" in front of her, and included a total CARICATURE of her First Dude.

I thought John McCain was hilarious when he hosted SNL, too. Can't stand him either. But I can appreciate their appearance on the show.

SNL was just doing its job as a satire show. They're supposed to smack EVERYONE down ... Obama, Clinton X2, McCain, Palin ... everybody.

26. HILLARY got some punchlines, though. It's different when the pol is telling the joke.
Al Gore and GWB poked fun at themselves 8 years ago, prior to the election.

McCain made fun of his age a few months ago.

But Sarah--they practically used her as a PROP! Did she HERSELF say anything that was funny?

I knew SNL wouldn't let us down. My overall view of Palin's performance = LAME!

The opening wasn't even funny IMO. Weekend Updates was only funny because they were making fun of her and she was dancing along like the moron she is. I guess liberal elitist comedy is over her head. LOL

she looked stupid.. like, why was she there? If she wasn't there it would have been funnier.. but with her sitting there "raising the roof" she looked like when your mom went to your soccer games and yelled to loudly about how mad she was at the ref. You're just embarrased for her, and want her to go away.

I was hoping SNL would craft something like this. Palin needed and richly deserved this giant 'rod of chastisement'. As

suspected, she was so vain and egotistical that she actually took the bait! Very funny. And just.

It spoofed the fact that this guy was using note cards during a stump speech. It was also a parody on Third-Party write-in candidates (and independent parties) as well.
