I told you!! Colin Powell endorses JOHN MCCAIN!! Only a gullible FOOL would think
that a traitor like Powell would endorse Obama, much less campaign for him!

...oh, wait....

Sorry, after having been basically treated like a moron for two days because I thought that Powell just might endorse Obama and also thought it would be a good thing, I couldn't resist.

1. I'm not little, by any definition of that word.

2. I'm not a man.

3. I recognize SNARK when it's thrown at me, bless your heart.

15. Being right about the Powell endorsement isn't a 'moral' victory.
And gloating over it was not claiming moral superiority. It was pure obnoxious gloating. If you had 30 people essentially call you an idiot, I bet you would want to gloat a little bit, too, when you turned out to be right.

Assuming that you are wonderful enough to be the moral compass for other people, however, IS claiming moral superiority.

16. I firmly believed that a Powell endorsement would help Obama
and not hurt Obama like many people were suggesting. However, I didn't create a "celebration thread". Perhaps a better response might have been something like:

9. Hey, I'll step up and admit I was wrong - and I'm damn giddy about this endorsement
Powell has "turned the corner" and is well on his way to atoning for his disgraceful behavior in the Bush administration. I recognize the value of this endorsement and I am willing to forgive him - the stakes are just too high to do anything otherwise.

I'm glad to have been wrong.

10. His reasons are perfect. He doesn't diss McCain, not really, he says
it is because Obama is the President we need right now. I think that is going to resonate with a lot of soft Republicans.

11. I don't hate him.
I do, however, a problem with a little speech he gave to the UN that enabled Bushco to send 4.000+ military men and women to needless death. Oh,did I mention thousands of wounded, or the unknown number of innocent Iraqis killed, injured, or displaced, and a country destroyed?

13. You don't have to forget that to be thankful for this endorsement.
Or to say, "You fucked that up and were wrong. But you got this right." Very, very few people in the world are ALL bad. And neither are there many (any?) that are ALL good. Do you think Powell himself forgets that speech at the UN...ever? I don't admire Colin Powell and I don't envy him, either.

17. I am glad he endorsed Obama.
I DO wish he'd done it earlier. Think of the good he could have done all these months, the number of people he could have persuaded, etc.

As an active duty officer during the 1st Gulf War, I was quite impressed with his leadership, and followed him closely. In fact, up until the speech at the UN, I would have been one of the first to jump on his presidental bandwagon had he chosen to run.

Powell is, to his very core, an accomplished politican, cautious and thoughtful, weighing all options before making a decision, so I'm sure it was hard for him to endorse Obama, considering his standing in the republican party and his personal relationship with John McCain. Having said that, I repeat--I am glad he endorsed Obama.

20. I for one was wrong about this
and I'm glad I was wrong!

Anything that helps Obama win this election is more important than being 'right'.
