Stupid stupid STUPID Columbus Dispatch endorsement (not unexpected:)

They endorsed McCain

Dumb and dumber....wonder if this is like the non-Kerry endorsement where the editorial staff voted for Kerry, but the Wolfes (huge Repub) owners over rode that.

1. Columbus in general
Is a hot bed of Republican coercion and propaganda. Just read some of the posts on this board as an example. http://forums.the-ozone.net/offtopic/index.pl

Just post something on there complimentary of Obama. Post something that says you feel the scientific evidence supports the theory of evolution. Make any statement of a moderate nature.

2. Yet Columbus is one of the most Democratic areas of the state
but the Wolfe's own the poper, therefore the endorsement.

The big scandal in 2004 was that the editorial board voted to endorse Kerry, and were over-ruled.

3. Are you sure you're not thinking of Cincinnati?
Columbus is hardly a "hotbed" of Republicans, despite the newspaper's endorsement.

5. Cincy is as red as it gets in Ohio
My son lives there, I have been trying to get him to move back to the Columbus area as it is MUCH more gay friendly.

He stays in Cincy out of sheer will..he likes the area in general, and refuses to let trash try and drive him out.

He is right, of course, but as a Mom, it is hard for me to take.

7. I mentioned to a friend yesterday that SW Ohio is very Republican.
She said "Really? Are you sure? Even Dayton?" This is a woman who lives here in Columbus but is from southern Ohio. Her extremely right-wing father lives in Dayton.

9. You know, I think Dayton is leaning just a bit
it won't topple mind you, but it will get a LOT bluer

Not Cincy though.

14. Sorry to hear that.
I'm skating in a competition there next weekend. I hate driving through the rural-area highways and having tons of RW stickers and propaganda shoved in my face! :grr:

15. The media isn't Republican oriented?
Have you ever listened to 610 AM? Talk to a white guy from Columbus, almost any white guy from Columbus.

16. Aside from me or any of my friends, you mean.
But yeah, 610 is our intravenous poison drip here. High power, clear channel, and 100% crap.

4. Ah, now there's the paper I loathe and despise.
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 09:03 AM by ebdarcy
I'm not shocked. In fact, I was waiting for it, and they didn't disappoint.

On edit: I just read the piece, even though I knew better. It's a fucking right-wing hit piece. It sounds like it was written by Fox. God damn stupid paper. I wish Columbus still had two dailies.

6. I lived in Columbus for a little while a long time ago. It is a collage town and also had a
fairly visible and active gay community.

I can easily be wrong but I never thought of it as conservative in the least.

8. Cbus is LEFTY

It's just the newspaper that S-U-C-K-S! Hubby and i canceled our subscription a while back (we were just getting it on weekends for the crossword puzzles, haha). But we didn't want to give any money to that raggy excuse of a non-newspaper.

11. What is it with people in Ohio?
Are they dangerously in-breed or just dumb in general? Do they actually have schools that go beyond say. . . . . .4th grade?

17. It can't be just the media
a lot of other areas have republican-controlled media and they're smart enough to get it.

12. These newspaper endorsement posts would be more helpful if I knew how important the paper is and
whether it usually endorses Democrat or Republican.
