***The Official "I Was Wrong About Colin Powell" Thread***
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 09:02 AM by jazzjunkysue
Confessions heard here. Peace be with you.

Let me be the first: I didn't think he'd do it. I still think he lead us into an immoral war and I'll never forget it.

But I was sure he'd endorse Gramps.

I'll call this The Powell Redemption

2. they way he said it was great. In essence,
I am still a republican, but the party has changed and I no longer recognize it.

3. Screw this thread.
Also, screw you "big tenters" who are so eager to snuggle up to a mass murderer, just because he's now "our mass murderer".

He's doing us a solid now. We don't have to accept everything he's done to accept that his endorsement helps.

4. No, we were right about him.
He's moved out of his sell out whore stage and is looking/working toward redemption. This is a good start but if he's looking for a clean slate his reckoning has only just begun.

23. Yeah, there's that too.
Either way, you won't see me in the lines at DU of folks waiting to canonize him. Guess we won't see you there either. :-)

Forgiveness is hard when I remember what it was like in the first Bush term.

But anyone who tries to atone deserves recognition.

13. I didn't see it - what did he say?
I am sure it will be replayed on the MSM all day but in essence did he embrace Obama or just reject McCain?Either way it is a plus for our side to have him reject his party's candidate. Hopefully it sends a message to all republicans that the party of hate needs to change. The pendulum is swinging...

15. I was not wrong about Colin Powell
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 09:05 AM by socialdemocrat1981
I still believe he was immensely wrong to take his talking points for the Iraq War to the United Nations (UN) even when he admitted beforehand in private that he knew that they were bogus. He should have resigned at that point and I think now he probably regrets that he didn't. Good people can sometimes do bad things

But this goes a long way towards his redemption in my book. It took a lot of courage and honor for him to abandon his traditional party allegiance and endorse Obama and I greatly value an respect his conscience and his judgement. It also restores the profound admiration I used to have for his decency and his integrity.

So I do not feel that criticisms of him were wrong. It's rather that I respect and admire him now for doing the right thing and putting his country first.

McCain if McCain were WINNING even if he still thought all the things he said on MTP, he would have just kept silent about it. he is being a shameless bandwagon jumper. Powell is a fucking war criminal and should be in PRISON. PERIOD.

21. Thank you.
If Obama does something like give this mass murderer any kind of appointment, we will have his knife in our backs within 8 years. Powell is about as much of a "maverick" as John McCain. Rivers of blood are on his hands, and Obama needs to bring a clean slate to Washington.

22. My own notes of Powell's statements. Lots of paraphrasing!
"I am concerned about the direction the party has taken in recent years.
I feel it has gone too far to the right."

Also, doesn't like palin or gramp's changing approaches to the economy. It's the economy, stupid.

Obama has steadyness and depth of knowledge and a good VP. "Shows intellectual vigor. A definitive way of doing business that will serve us well."

Gramps becomes narrower, and Obama is broadening.

Been disappointed in the approaches Gramps has taken, especially Ayers. Doesn't like the robocalls. Completely destroys the ayers argument. Obama needed that. That was good.

"I would have difficulty with 2 more conservative members of the supreme court.

Also clears up the muslim BS. Says he's not, but, even if he were, it wouldn't matter. Not happy about the racially loaded events in the campaign.

Obama has style and substance, reaches out, transformational figure. I will be voting for him.

26. He used the words "intellectual curiosity", something that has been
sorely lacking in the current President, and that I don't see in John McCain.

Powell gave us well thought out reasoning, and I applaud him for it. I can't quite forgive him for his appearance before the UN, but I do believe that this is sincere.

If nothing else, it is a vote for Obama in Virginia.
