Is this the first major "across the aisle" endorsement for Obama?
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 09:07 AM by Bicoastal
I know McCain and Lieberman are practically joined at the hip these days, but who was the most prominent Republican to endorse Obama before Powell? Chuck Hagel's wife? Dennis Hopper?

THAT'S why this is a big deal.

12. Not yet
Just an endorsement by omission. Most people probably don't remember the big part Hagel played in McCain's 2000 campaign. But for those who do it's a no-brainer as to who Chuck is voting for.

5. chrstopher buckley was the first huge one. Many conservative endorsements flooding...
newspapers, pundits, etc.

expect this to keep going.

moderate republicans are sick of what's going on with mccain/palin.

15. it's such a wonderfully historic moment =D
and all these republicans standing up... crossing lines... get my full respect.

it's nice to see some of them standing up for their own principles.

17. Let me put this somewhat differently:
Those Republicans who are standing up for Obama are showing that they do have principles that were betrayed by the Bush administration, and they will not tolerate the continuation of these policies.

It's a great day.

13. Are you sure that John Warner endorsed Obama?
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 09:22 AM by Eric J in MN
I did a Google search and didn't find that.

Didn't find Richard Luger's endorsement, either.

18.  Neither Lugar nor Warner did
Lugar said some very positive things about Obama's approach to diplomacy a few days ago though. All current senators have officially endorsed their respective party's candidate, with the notable exception of Hagel.

Susan Eisenhower. Her endorsement pulled my Dad (WW2 vet) off the fence and on Obama's side.
