3. WBOY is our local station, too. You must live within a county or two of me.
We don't have TV service, but still--hello neighbor. :hi:

12. YAY!
:bounce:

Hey, didn't your governor have some kind of controversy of pulling some strings to get his daughter in grad school? I swear I heard something like that when Rich Rodriguez left WVU to Michigan.

13. Well, not the Governor *himself* that we know of, but
some slimy administrators at the university who didn't want to offend the Governor's daughter--or more importantly, her employer (a wealthy and powerful WVU alum.) Said administrators have since resigned, including the former President of the University.

Good riddance to them--AND to BitchRod. From what I hear, he isn't doing so well in the Great White North. ;)

15. Hehe
Yeah, he's been really struggling. I actually did live in West Virginia for about a year in the late 90s. Had an engineering co-op in Parkersburg, WV. Being from northern Virginia, it was kind of a culture shock.

19. Well I am originally from here, but I lived for eight years near Harrisonburg, VA
And let me tell you--if you want to see a REAL culture shock, go there. I swear, we actually moved BACK to West Virginia because it seemed downright Progressive compared to THAT place. They set up stings in the local city park to catch gay men who are trying to find a "safe place" to meet other gay men for hookups, dates, etc. Not actually having sex in the park--just MEETING each other there. And they STILL do it, even after Lawrence v. Texas. They also have the phoniest "newspaper" I've ever seen (The Daily News-Record.) It doesn't even *try* to be neutral. The editor is actually quite proud of being a propaganda rag for the far right.

Scary place down there. Beautiful scenery, but the culture is flat-out terrifying.
:scared:

20. Hey there fellow Mountaineer!
I've actually never been to Parkersburg, much to my shame. I've been pretty much everywhere else in our lovely state, but never there. :(
