"Don't underestimate the capacity of Democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory."
-Barack Obama

I think that about sums it up. :patriot:

1. No, we shouldn't. We should be glad that he has sense to do the right thing!

6. Preach it FrenchieCat!
:hi:

As much as some people seem to hate Colin Powell here, I only wish that they will save the hate until after we win this election. Now is not the time to become a disorderly mob. Obama is where he is in this race because his campaign is always on message and is very well-organized. It's a model that we could aspire to here at DU. :patriot:

17. Independant thought is SO overrated!
The little American flag smiley really nailed it. Where do I sign up to be the liberal version of a ditto-head??

However, since my message and you not being able to counter it are also in this thread, my reasons for bumping it are entirely selfish. :)

12. There is this thing called "principle"
For example, forming a militia and murdering every Republican in Washington may be an effective strategy to take control of the government, however it wouldn't be right. Snuggling up to a war criminal in order to win a few more votes in an election that we're already winning isn't right.

15. The buck stops on one desk.
ONE DESK! It wasn't Powell's war, it was Bush's war. Powell even advised the President to reconsider his decision.

21. Was that before or after he told the world that Saddam had mobile germ labs?
I see. Powell is just a poor innocent victim. The Sec. of State shouldn't be expected to use his own brain. Gotcha.

23. You have any proof he wasn't lied to by intelligence officials in the Bush administration?
That is his claim and unfortunately no real investigation has been done on this. You're just content to place all the blame on Colin Powell. After all, when a crime is committed, it's more important to put one person in jail than to find out who is really responsible.

Thanks for constantly kicking my thread. Much appreciated. :patriot:

26. Do you have any proof that he was?
Are you claiming that the Sec. of State has no information-gathering abilities of his own? Are you aware that many individuals in many intel agencies said, prior to the war, that there were no WMDs? Do you remember the name Hans Blix?

Not only to bring light on the record, but to protect our nation from these kinds of intelligence failures in the future.

18. ah.. that "principle" ridiculousness that allows republicans to stay in power.
I tire of the liberal purists... wonder if you all would be welcome to have us peer into your lives to see if you're living that principal yourself? You know.. don't own a car because of foreign oil being the cause of wars, you don't shop in any corporate stores, you know.. stuff like that.

It's easy to throw those "war criminal" attacks around here when we're trying to save our fucking Country. Sometimes I think half the people who start stuff like that are 'principal trolls'

And should be pointed out to all all fence sitters everywhere.
Let's not get totally ga-ga though, OK? True courage would have been to speak out when it really would have made a difference. He is supporting Obama now when there is no danger whatsoever for him to do so.

Just watch what the Republican Party will probably do to him in the future. It won't be pretty. Any skeletons in his closet will be on full display on Fox & Friends. And no, his family won't be off-limits.
