I want to apologize for the snide remarks I made about Powell yesterday

His insight and character were spot on today on 99% of everything talked about. I have been waiting for someone to defend the Muslim faith and the disgusting attacks made by Republicans on Muslims. That defense was made beautifully by Powell. It would have been very hard for a Democrat to come to the defense of the Muslims as being just as American as you and I because the Republicans are trying so hard to paint Democrats and Obama as terrorists. This was something ONLY a Republican could do and you have to give credit to Powell for reminding us what the real values of our constitution are all about and that there are thousands of Muslim kids fighting and dying for America.

Powell nailed McCain's problems to the tee. He nailed the Republicans hate. He nailed Palin and he gave an articulate, well reasoned endorsement for Obama and why he has what it takes to be president. Powell's comments were like poetry to my ears and he did a better job making our case than we have in a lot of ways.

I very much regret putting Powell down yesterday and I had to clear my conscience. Powell has made his share of mistakes but it is clear to me he is a good man and a wise man.

BWAHAHAHAH!!!

EDIT: But I'm more than happy for Team Obama to use his endorsement for all it's worth.

5. I guarantee you that weighs on Powell's mind everyday.
I think he regrets what he did and may even hate part of himself for caving into Bush. It would have happened with or without Powell and at least Powell was there trying to be a Devils Advocate and talk them out of the War. That has been clearly documented. He was weak in the end like most humans are when they are outnumbered 10 to 1. Group-think and mind-guards pounded him down so he was irrelevant and he caved.

Also, can we give Powell credit for the good military decisions he made in other wars that may have saved tens of thousands of lives?

20. No, I do not. But to be honest, I don't think Obama wants that...
and I don't think the majority of Americans want it either.
If I had my way, I'd see Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, Rove, Perle, and Wolfie, maybe a few others, see a trial...but I think Americans right now are scared more than angry.
Obama's going to have a lot of shit to clean up when he gets into office.
The economy is going to be issue one. People will need assurance, healing, and confident leadership. In the end...we'll probably just end up having to turn the page.

23. If you can find me a poll that says the majority of Americans want to see
Bush and Cheney stand trial for war crimes, then I'll believe you.
Also, if you don't think Obama's biggest task is going to be fixing the economy, then you are kidding yourself.

16. If it's so bad then I would think it would have been easy for you to rebut rather than
just say it was bad.

4. I think that thing we should remember is that not only did Powell make mistakes
but Democrats made mistakes too.

That is why Obama's humble spirit is going to be such a salve for this country.

On Nov 5th he will reach out and embrace McCain - and the country will love him for it.

7. Very nicely thought-out apology. I think Powell surprised many people with the reasons for his pick.
I wish more people here would listen to Powell's words and understand where he is coming from.

10. I also made some remarks...
about Mr. Powell. I called him a war criminal. While I welcome the votes his endorsement could bring with it, I STAND BY MY STATEMENTS OF YESTERDAY. Colin Powell is a war criminal just as sure as Cheney and Bush.

made you change your mind with such an eloquent statement, Quixote.

I'm with Skinner on this one..I believe in redemption..if I didn't I'd be in big trouble in my own life.

Heck, maybe even Harry Belafonte will forgive him now?

24. I agree with you completely.
Not only did he endorse Obama, and denounce Islamaphobia,
he dove right into the hot button topic of taxes and
reiterated that "taxes are a redistribution of the wealth".

He is not coming across like a neocon- my God, the
man uses logic and reasoning!

Regarding denouncing Islamaphobia, I'm sorry
you missed this thread.

A handful of members denounced this- too hot button, maybe?

Thanks for posting this thread.

26. Why do you love war criminals? You that greedy for power?
Richard Clarke: "Now, I just don’t think we can let these people back into polite society and give them jobs on university boards and corporate boards and just let them pretend that nothing ever happened when there are 4,000 Americans dead and 25,000 Americans grieviously wounded, and they’ll carry those wounds and suffer all the rest of their lives."

Maybe Code Pink should hold some bloody hands up to your face.

27. so are you still supporting Obama?
He not only said he was honored and humbled by Powell's endorsement, he has said he would have Powell play a role in his administration.

So I guess that would be a deal breaker for you, since you obviously must feel that Obama "loves war criminals" and is "that greedy for power."
