Powell says crazy Michelle Bachman helped him decide to endorse Obama
Powell says crazy Michelle Bachman helped him decide to endorse Obama

Q: Sir, what role did McCain's negativity play in your decision?

POWELL: It troubled me. You know, we have two wars. We have economic problems. We have health problems. We have education problems. We have infrastructure problems. We have problems around the world with our allies. And so those are the problems the American people wanted to hear about, not about Mr. Ayers, not about who is a Muslim and who's not a Muslim. Those kinds of images going out on al Jazeera are killing us around the world. And we have got to say to the world it doesn't make any difference who you are or what you are. If you're an American you're an American.

And this business of, for example, a congressman from Minnesota who's going around saying let's examine all congressmen to see who is pro-America or not pro-America. We have got to stop this kind of nonsense and pull ourselves together and remember that our great strength is in our unity and in our diversity. And so that really was driving me. And to focus on people like Mr. Ayers, these trivial issues for the purpose of suggesting that somehow Mr. Obama would have some kind of terrorists' inclinations, I thought that was over the top. It was beyond just good political fighting back and forth. I think it went beyond. And then to sort of throw in this subtle Muslim connection. You know, he's a Muslim and a terrorist. And it was taking root. And we can't judge our people and we can't hold our elections on that kind of basis. And so yes, that kind of negativity troubles me and the constant shifting of the argument.

11. I am going to watch Tweety more up until the election, but only till then
He has been respectable when a 'commentator' during the debates, but I still think it's a ploy for his Senate/House/Whatever run.

5. He made up his mind months ago... and it slipped out.
Watch that MTP interview again, carefully.

At one point he indicated his mind was basically made up a few months ago. He may have weighed the issue of SPEAKING OUT and formally endorsing Obama, but he obviously swung to Obama perhaps with the Palin pick.

but I certainly don't want ANYONE who was ever nominated for anything by Shrub Bush in Obama's Cabinet.

14. The word "endorsing" usually refers to speaking out publicly.
One could argue that quietly donating or quietly casting a vote is endorsing, but usually endorsing means publicly declaring whom one will vote for.

16. Exactly. He didn't make up his mind yesterday.
So why did he say this? Maybe it's legitimate. Maybe it's justification for his break with the party.

I'm looking for the real reason Powell has endorsed Obama. Maybe it is the real reason, but maybe not. I want to keep an open mind about this. After all, he is/was a republican.

6. You know that's kind of true..
In the military and on the battlefield.. they are all "brothers".. and the one thing that amazes the regions we are bombing to hell.. is that our army is all kinds of colors and yet, they work together.. Like the guy who's in command now that's black--the one Palin got wrong.. but anyway, its inspiring to see diversity come together in unity.. and that's the ONE positive thing that the country has seen from our armed services and is the one thing that gives them hope that perhaps one day the religious differences will be just that differences, but not something to be killed over.

palin going around squawking that she's happy to be in the "pro America" part of Virginia or the country..or :wtf: ever hate she was spewing at the time.

Thanks palin and bachman for being such heinous tools.

17. It doesn't matter why he did it, Bachman vs Months Ago.
What matters is he spoke out against her words. He words were beyond the pale, and they need to be called out!

We should have given money to her campaign and get her re-elected.

She helps the Democratic Party more than any Democratic Congressperson could.

22. Tweety deserves big props for this
he set her up, made her go further in her hate filled innuendos than she would have in "polite" company, he made her say, basically, liberals are unAmeican and hate America.

He's my hero of the hour.

27. Kind of like crazy Pat Buchanan
Who got my hard-core, borderline racist aunt to vote for Clinton. My aunt heard the ugliness in his Republican convention speech, and even though she's said some of the same things herself, she recognized that "that's not us" and gave her one and only Democratic vote to Clinton.
