1. oh please
so you can't accept the political value of the endorsement without having to embrace the messenger?
Who's the purist?

7. I did

And I haven't seen many comments, including my own, that are stating anything other than "endorsement=good/powell=not good" from the "purity trolls."
You see, I do believe we agree that the endorsement is a good thing...what is sticking in many people's craws is some of the language being touted about Powell like "redemption."
edit: this is the kind of stupid shit that is making me angry: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7521332&mesg_id=7521332

13. THANK YOU !!!
No shit, huh???

:wtf:

We need every and all votes we can muster. I WANT that fucking landslide!

I want to put the Republican Party out into the wilderness for the next 30 years.

And if they come back then, at least I'll be safely dead!

:shrug:

10. Yes yes yes...the purity charge.
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 03:32 PM by Forkboy
:eyes:

What's funny is, the people I know who get this charge thrown at them all the time are anything but. It's us "purists" who keep voting for people we only partially like election after election, helping you guys who just continue to shit on the left with open disdain for anyone who tries to actually stand for something consistently, and not just when it suits us. I've never once voted for the person I initially wanted to, and have always settled for someone I think is lesser. I've compromised on every vote I've ever cast. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

So tell us RL, who are the purists here? I've yet to actually meet one, but many on DU seem to feel they know them well, usually as a cover for their own shifting ideology.

14. Well, some of us can hold more than one thought.
Try it.

Endorsement = good.
Powell = not so good.

Simple enough for you?

Win election = good.
Powell Redemption = not a chance.

Simple enough for you?

22. I have no problem with the endorsment either way but
I doubt it will have any detectable effect. The extreme right wing neocons won't listen to Powell, and anyone even slightly to the left- or center- and reasonable is already for Obama.

24. Oh but they're not........
.... you're correct, the far right will denounce him.

But we still have a lot of undecided fence sitters in the middle and middle right who have not made up their minds. This could tip them our way.

This was a VERY good thing.

Accept the endorsement. Take the votes it brings.

And continue to shun him.

Your point?

21. His/her point
Is to stop things like this http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7521332&mesg_id=7521332 that suggest Powell should actually be considered as a viable SoS candidate.
