Freeper concern, asks: "Does Anybody Have Some New Coping Techniques?"
My apologies for posting this ramble, but it's positively erudite for the Freepers. From "Mountain Mary":

It is a beautiful fall day in Colorado: but I am sitting here trying to decide whether my symptoms are more anxiety or depression, or both. FEAR, for sure. Sometimes this all seems like a dream: how there could exist the real possibility that a Muslim Socialist with ties to a domestic terrorist and an America hating pastor, can be on the brink of becoming our next President: not to mention his inexperience, dishonesty and far left liberal ideas. I find myself being afraid for our country: for our liberties and the democratic principles that we hold so dear. I made the mistake of watching George Snuffalufagas this morning. He and the libs on his panel talked briefly about the election but they kept saying "when"(he takes office) instead of "if" when they referred to Zerobama. Newt(yes, our NEWT) predicted a McCain loss unless something turns around and soon. George Will, who seems to have abandoned his Conservative beliefs of late, just looked depressed. THEN, they went on to other topics..just like there wasn't really anything more to say about the election cuz it's OVER! I want to ask you Freepers what coping skills are working for you right now: Mine are the following: 1. Turn off the MSM, and unfortunately, that includes Fox News, with the exception of Fox and Friends in the am, Greta(she's had great exposes on ACORN), Hannity and Colmes and Huckabee. O'Reilly is totally losing it: he told Laura Ingraham the other night that he has no problem with Obama, not to mention his abrasiveness and the way he uses his hands all the time is creepy. 2. Listen only to Rush, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and Hannity on the radio. 3. Exercise: it gets the endorphins going. 4. Prepare and eat comfort food: I made soup today, 5. Stay on Conservative or Republican websites only. 6. Do something useful for your local McCain/Palin campaign: Make the dreaded phone calls, distribute lit, yard signs and the like. it will make you feel good and you can hang out with like minded people. I would like nothing better than to see those pearly whites of Nobama's disappear in anger and disbelief. And Mabelle has her dress already. Wonder if it can be returned to TJ Maxx! The lobster and champagne at the Waldorf Astoria is what really got me: The BO's are already celebrating! a $350 lunch. Makes me want to hurl. Please advise me of any other techniques you freepers have for getting through the next two weeks. But don't suggest drinking: I gave it up! Thanks, MM :)

Hard to believe she gave up drinking. But, the best response there:

It’s nothing compared to the bills Obama, Pelosi and Reid are going to be charging against the US in the next couple of years.

It's amazing how they parrot the talking points.

Anything - ANYTHING - they are coached on becomes the subject du jour at Free Republic.

I wouldn't call her erudite, as she is obviously very limited and under-informed. She likes to scare herself and she is quite good at it.

We have no time for the likes of her. We will work on fixing this country, from which she too will benefit in the end, but she won't see it.

A veeeeeery long sabbatical on a deserted island may be the answer for Mary.

84. Selective outrage is what they are good at.
I laughed today when my daughter came home and told me about the car she had seen with a homemade sign in the window that said 'Sarah Palin is our Joan of Arc'. Here I thought she was their Queen Esther.

How many times have they ridiculed us and said that Obama was our Messiah, but none of us have said that that I know of. Now they claim that this dimwit from Alaska is their salvation sent by God. Oh, and georgie boy was too. I find it hilarious that every one of their leaders are somehow sent by God, but if we believe in the guality of our person then we have a Messiah complex.

Another thing, Obama was exotic because he was from Hawaii, but palin is all American because she is from Alaska. Huh? Why she can even see Russia from her front porch, how foreign is that?

We should start a thread on palin with all these things presented in fake outrage and see how long it takes them to react to it. Just joking.

36. Far Left Liberal Ideas???? WTF
I don't get it when Mountain Mary repeats what she heard on RW radio about far-left liberals. I know what a far-left movement / organization is, because like many folks I was far-left back in the 60s. All Obama has discussed is a small move to the left. It might seem like a big change, given the hell of the last 8 years, but Obama's program isn't even what is viewed as mainstream in most European countries; much less a real leftist politic; much less a far-left agenda.

I wish Obama was more like Kucinich, but I voted for Obama in the primary and will vote for him again in the general election. There is much to like about Obama, even if he isn't and never will be far-left.

43. Girlangler at FR finds the "perfect escape" to the election: Kill and gut a deer. Lovely.
To: Mountain Mary; Grammy; jazusamo; george76; CrappieLuck; billhilly; proud_yank; Flycatcher; ...

I found the perfect escape yesterday. My brother secured permission to hunt my neighbor’s (owns about 100 acres) property next to mine.

He made a perfect lung shot with a crossbow on a buck about 8 a.m. yesterday. My brother followed a blood trail, which stopped suddenly. We combed the woods for hours (I live on a Tennessee mountaintop, and estimate I hiked about eight miles, straight up in some cases). When that blood trail stopped suddenly, we combed every inch of the area, couldn’t find another trace. I had thought about going to a mowed TVA power line not far from here, but we followed conventional wisdom the buck went straight downhill, to the lake. I also believed the buck would go for brushpiles, to hide from predators.

After near exhaustion, I finally suggested we check out the powerline. There lay the buck, right in the middle of the mowed area. Then it was time to butcher it, and the satisfaction of knowing we will eat under any circumstances.

I learned some good woodsmanship skills, worked out muscles I forgot I had, and never once thought about the election.

I have done my part emailing, talking, voting early, taking former non voters to vote, etc.

Today, I had to work the muscles again, so I dug up a bunch of plants to take inside, as it’s supposed to freeze here. Excercise is good for the mind and body, I need to do more of it.

Also, don’t believe everything you read/hear from the MSM. I’m having a hard time believing Americans would elect Obama (but we do need to get a handle on the voting fraud underway). Of course, if it happens, I’ll live with it and work to change things four years from now. I remember the Carter years, and how it led to Republican successes for many years. Sometimes we just need a wakeup call.

Waking up to find John Mcain flicking his little forked tongue would certainly cause me to have an aversion, and lord knows, I'd lose an arm!

83. Well , it's like this:
I either have to hit it out of the park or strike out, 'cause I'm too dang old to run the bases!

Speaking of old, I do believe I'm going to have to take a little nap now, since it's waaaay past o'dark-thirty.

Thank you so much, I have so enjoyed this. Perhaps we'll do it again sometime?

Sorry about the late response. I'm afraid I had already succumbed to nap time before you took your last swing. Perhaps I need to invest in some Geritol if I'm to keep up with you.

Agreed, though. This was definitely enjoyable. I'd be disappointed if we didn't reconvene soon.

Good mornin' to you!

And how can he be a Muslim AND have an American hating pastor. Pastors run Christian churches

The Freepers are fed so many talking points by Rush/Hannity that all they can do is spew them out in a nonsensical fashion.

Extraordinary what ventriloquist's dummies they are.

54. A little suggestion to freepers:
If it seems impossible that there could "exist the real possibility that a Muslim Socialist with ties to a domestic terrorist and an America hating pastor, can be on the brink of becoming our next President: not to mention his inexperience, dishonesty and far left liberal ideas"...

then maybe it is.

No, I'm not telling you, Mr. and Ms. Freeper, that McCain will win: that's all but mathematically impossible. I'm telling you that a) he's not a Muslim, though there would be nothing wrong with it if he was b) he's not a socialist, though again socialists are pretty conventional mainstream people, and we might do well to try out some socialist policies, for a change c) he has no ties to active domestic terrorists (unlike the Palins), and only weak ties to Professor Ayers, and Professor Ayers is a very mainstream education expert these days: you know, people do change over time d) Reverend Wright isn't anti-American (though he is pretty flaky at times): listen to his sermons in their entirety, with an open mind, and maybe you'll discover this e) Obama has more experience than many of our past Presidents, and has learned more than most do during his years of public service f) Obama has had his moments, where his campaign has exaggerated some points, but he does not have a track record of dishonesty g) he doesn't have far left liberal ideas, but I and others are hoping he can be persuaded: it's those ideas you fear that have historically been the most successful when dealing with economic crises of this type.

I'd do the opposite of what you're planning to do: stay away from right wing media, and immerse yourself, with an open mind, in neutral and left-of-center news sources. I'll bet you could even find a home here, at scary ol' DU, if you come here with an open mind and an interest in learning what the right wing media never told you about (a couple hints though: don't announce yourself as a freeper -- some people will jump on you immediately even if you're hear to learn; and don't come here to argue with us, because DU is not a place for that.

And if all else fails, revisit this post a year from now. The world hasn't ended has it? Things have not gone as nightmarishly as you thought they would, correct? Perhaps the ideas you have been holding have been wrong. Be open to that nagging doubt, and try again to look at the world without the right wing media's filter. Really, the world is not as scary as you think it is. Just take a peek.

The best medicine for coping with life is the truth.

107. excellent ideas
Unfortunately, considering them requires an open mind.

(I especially like the very first point you made, about how if it seems impossible that blah blah blah, then maybe it is. That's an idea just barely simple enough for a highly functioning freeper to grasp.)

For a few years. It'll be nice and quiet, she won't have to watch the news, and there'll be no Muslim socialists there to disturb her. Of course, she'll undoubtedly have to shave her head, and give up her SUV, but that's a small price to pay for peace of mind, isn't it?

Hey, I'm a Buddhist! I prefer to remove people from the gene pool non-violently.

67. Here's a suggestion!
How about you get in your truck and head down to the nearest liquor store to pick up four cases of Coors. Be sure to turn on Sean/Rush/Neal/Mark/Michael/Rusty/Laura on your drive!

Then, upon your return, pull into your garage and close the door. But don't turn off the engine! You wouldn't want to miss a word from these giants of modern American political thought - and you wouldn't want to run down the battery either, now would you?

Then, see if you can drink all the beer!!
