No this is not a joke. Well, his campaign might be a joke but it is not a joke that only 15 people showed up to see McCain today in Columbia, MO.

I hope this brings tremendous anguish to the arrogant Republicans. They need a lesson in humility.

If people can't afford their services or products, it doesn't matter how low small business owners' taxes are. They won't make any money to pay them.

34. I've been saying this for 8 years. I own a VERY small business.
My clients are the cat-owning average folks with average jobs in average neighborhoods (plus a smattering of very upper-middle-class fancy-house folks). Republicans have seriously harmed my clients' finances, therefore they have harmed my business.

Anybody tries to tell you the RW is pro-business, they are LYING. They are only pro-BIG business, as in major multinational corporations.

32. I loved this person's post:
Robert Stinnett October 20, 2008 | 3:10 p.m.

I liked the quote from the lady who was "upset" so few people turned out. Well, maybe that should tell you something. I'm a small business owner (who is licensed and pays his taxes unless McCain's friend Joe) who 100% supports Obama. I realize that I can't sell my product unless people can afford to buy them. I've sat by and watch my 401K get drained, the rich get richer thanks my tax dollars bailing them out, and 8 years of this country turn its back on hardworking folks in favor of get-rich-quick schemes. So no, I'm not gathering at the airport to wave to McCain -- I'm more worried about my families well-being and how we are going to survive. I don't have time to listen to McCain tell me this is a "mental recession" and how Obama wants to turn us into socialists. I don't have time for the lies, McCain, and many other people don't have time for them either. If you have nothing better to do than to lie to us, just stay home. I drove 140 miles to see Obama on Saturday; I wouldn't waste gas driving 5 miles to see McCain.

61. McCain has some fiber
15 people is like a party that no one showed up to, and two weeks before the election it would be hard to not just say the hell with it for most people.

Random people speaking about random issues at City Hall can garner more than an audience of 15.

Does Obama regularly get crowds showing up at the airport? No. More than 15 people wouldn't surprise me, but the thread implies McCain held a rally and only 15 people came. You can do better.

96. Well, I should have said 'regularly' (re the airport)
But I really felt misled by the OP - filed under 'trying too hard'.

78. McCain stopped in Columbia? Really?
Wow, I live in the Columbia area, and there was no, I mean absolutely zero publicity that McCain was going to stop by. Besides, for McCain, stopping in Columbia is like stopping in the heart of darkness. Columbia is a solid blue college town, quite liberal.

I imagine the reason why they didn't publicize this is because they knew it would bring out more protesters than supporters, and gee, wouldn't that have looked awkward.

And of course, McCain chooses the crappiest BBQ to stop at. About the only thing I can recommend about Buckingham's is the horseradish cole slaw. The rest of the menu sucks.

79. And half of that 15 was
just the group of geezers who go down to the airport every day to watch the planes land and shoot the shit.

Apparently, John doesn't draw very well when he doesn't have Sideshow Sarah with him.

85. Let's all sing, shall we?
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here.

When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near for
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog, Underdog.

When in this world the headlines read
Of those who's hearts are filled with greed
And rob and steal from those in need.
To right this wrong with blinding speed goes
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog, Underdog.

82. If McCain could think on his feet, he would have invited all 15 to the best restaurant in town and
had dinner with them. That would have made the media in a better way and would have given him a better chance of attracting people in the next town. Good thing he cannot think on his feet, though. Hell, think on his feet--he can barely stand on them.

93. That would imply John Sidney McCain III can think...
Or have compassion...

Or would be willing to spend money on anything not for himself...

83. Underwhelming, just like his campaign... HA!
not quite 100,000, or 10,000, or 1,000 or even 100! 15.

he's so inspiring! The only way McBlinky can win is by election theft. they will try.

86. This is what makes it farcical that McCain can be president... Obama gets
100 thousand people to his rally and McCain gets 15 and with Palin he gets about 5-7 thousand. If Obama loses then this election was stolen. There is no way I can ever believe that McCain could win fairly or that there is even such a thing as a Bradley effect.

88. Kansas City area: Obama, 75,000 -- McCain, 6,000
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 09:56 AM by KansDem
I heard on NPR this morning that McCain's appearance in Belton (a community (suburb?) just south of KC) drew 6,000 people yesterday. Compare that with 75,000 for Obama in KC on Saturday!

:woohoo:

on edit: a colleague just told me she heard McCain's Belton visit brought only 3,000.

94. PROOF THAT MCCAIN GROUND GAME IS NON-EXISTANT
There is no way in the world the local campaign should not have known about this and had people at the airport!!! This is amazing and proof that there is NO GOTV effort in the area.

What a disgrace.

Of the people who show up, I wonder for how many it will be the first time they've ever set foot at Columbia Regional Airport.

102. You can bet if Obama supporters found out Monday morning that he was landing there Monday afternoon
there would have been a crowd of several thousand raucous supporters there.
