What are Obama's plans between Nov 5th and Jan 19th?
Does he go on vacation, maybe Disney World? Does he immediately, as President Elect, have access to the White House? Does he make plans to have all of his finances placed in a blind trust? Does he pack up the girls and Michelle and make arrangements for a house sitter? Does he take an international trip, meeting and visiting as many world leaders as possible? Does he relax and enjoy the holidays and hole up in his house in sweats? Do they start looking at schools in the D.C. area?

What does a President Elect do besides get his cabinet together?

1. I think the transition is very time consuming, and involves much more...
...than choosing a cabinet. He'll have to be briefed by hundreds of people, for one thing.

2. If history is any guide, that time will be extremely busy if he's the President elect
I assume he already has a transition team in place. Managing that will be more complicated (and critical) than managing a campaign. He will be dealing with everything from interviewing/designating appointees (Cabinet level and WAY below), establishing Executive Branch protocol, meeting with members of Congress and a myriad of other government departments and agencies, and setting the tone for how leadership, flow of information and decision making will take place in an Obama White House.

I don't think there will be much of a break.

15. And the transition team will have a few "bumps in the road"
Most do, I'm on a team to move one fucking building, and its driving me nuts and we've had additions and replacements.

ps
Wow didn't think this time last year I'd be talking about a Obama transition team!!! :patriot:

17. No kidding! I refuse to get my hopes up, but I can't help it
I hope my lack of faith in American voters is misplaced.

3. Bush signed a special executive order turning the government over right after the election.
This was a couple weeks back. I can't find the link to it just off hand.

6. Barack Obama and John McCain are both already receiving NAtional Security Briefings
The period between November 5th to January 19th is the transition period. He'll be the busiest man on the planet.

8. Woot!
I want him to take at least a week off to be with his family because his life will never be the same again. He will be extremely busy and the KIDS will be thrust into a whirlwind of change. They will be uprooted and placed in D.C. They have not had their daddy on a day to day basis for two years. They need to have a break for at least a week. I'm sure he can make up the time for organization starting on Nov 12.

Last three episodes of Season 7
They chronicle the hectic transition period for President-elect Matt Santos.

10. I love the pie! may I borrow it - and in response to your inquiry,
he's already putting together a transition team - and I'm sure he has several posts all but filled. Both campaigns must be doing this, it is arrogant TO do it, but it would be irresponsible to not consider the transition.

12. WORK!! He will have SO much work to do. Between the transition
and getting a jump on the economic situation, Iraq, etc., he is going to be one busy man.

And running up a lot of long-distance calls that they know won't be billed until after Jan 20. ;)

16. He will get the rescue pup he promised his daughters...
Then he will work his butt off for the next eight and 1/2 years. Transition is hard so much to do...so much to assess... and then he has to clean up Bush's mess plus work on his own agenda. I do not envy that young man or is family! Michelle, Malia, Sacha... stay strong!
