Someone stole my Obama sign and left his cell phone, what to do

On Friday or Saturday night my dogs started barking like someone was at the door. No one knocked and the dogs would scare me away, if I were at the door. Today I notice that my Obama sign was in my neighbor's yard and the neighbor's sign was gone. I have extra signs, so I went in, and put a new one in my yard. When I went to the neighbor's to put a sign in their's I noticed a cell phone laying by the spot where the sign had been. This evening I went to the neighbors, it is not their phone.

So, the phone is not charged up any more, so I can't call it or wait for someone else to call.

What to do? Turn it in to the police? Have the loss of the phone be penalty enough?

There was a guy stealing all my signs (I had dozens of them, mostly homemade) and many others throughout the city. He was finally caught and detained by the police. His truck was full of stolen yard signs and he admitted what he'd done, so what did they do about it? Sent him home on a promise to not do it any more.

The guy is a local gun nut and a well-known Republican douchebag. His name made it into the local paper, but it only gave him greater street cred among his loony peers.

My advice: Put your sign in your window, or up on the roof, or any place else that it's less easily taken.

101. That's what I'd do. Get a charger and check the call history.
Starting calling people to find out who the phone belongs to. Then call the police.

You could just call the police, but they won't do shit and I like to know stuff so I'd research it on my own. ONce you turn it over the police, you'll never get it back and cell phones are GOLD MINES of information. It could have videos on it. Who knows. GET A CHARGER. And then get back to us.

Find a charger for the phone, get the phone charged and go to town.

Take a picture of favorite body part (preferable genital) and sent it to everyone on the persons contact list. Its war they stole your property...now make them pay.

I know seems a bit juvenile, but this is coming from a college student with too much time on the internet tubes.

and remembering the stress my daughter and I felt when she lost her cell phone, and remembering that good democrats do the right thing, I turned the cell phone into the police and explained how I found it, without any drama or request for action. The officer got just a hint of a smile on her face when she heard when and where I found it. I don't think the person who left it will get into too much if any trouble.

88. Find a charger, identify the owner and if possible take it to his house.
Tell him that you found it where your yard sign was stolen. Then tell him because you are a Liberal you are returning the phone to him instead of calling the police. The guilt he will feel will inflict more damage on his psyche than anything else you could do; and who knows, maybe you can convert him. It is a long shot but worth the try.

think of it this way... those signs are bought by donors, and sometimes the cost of the signs does not cover the actual costs. Every time a shithead steals a sign they are stealing from someone's grandma who donated $5.00 for the first time in her life.. to help Obama.

Chances are the idiot has stolen many more.

Turn the phone in and insist that they find a way to charge it (they can with the cooperation of a local cell phone store or radio shack) and find out who did this. Don't listen to people to say "let it go" Democrats are not doormats.

In fact, the only person that has a right to the phone is the neighbor on whose lawn you found it.

The person who stole the sign is a criminal who left the phone while in the commission of a crime. He was guilty of both theft and trespass. He left the phone on the property. It now belongs to the owner of the lawn. Give it to him, if you must give it to someone.

You do not need to call the police. As evidence, it's of dubious utility, which cannot prove guilt or innocence. They won't press charges against the guy.
