Lindsey Graham is up for re-election this year
and he seems to spend more time stumping for McCain than defending his own seat!

This race hasn't gotten much attention at all.

Anyone know anything about his opponent Bob Conley? Do we have any chance at all here?

1. Funny race. Conley is some kind of xenophobic madman, who's spent about three dollars so far.
Yet, he's still within single digits of Graham?

2. Any chance we can do for him what we just did for Tinklenberg?
Sneak up on him when he's got his head up McCain's ass?

4. That's what I was thinking
although I don't know if his opponent is viable enough to make such an effort worthwhile.

Is he really that popular?

7. Nope he's not that popular
Hell - he isn't even that popular among teh repubs. We had a great Senate candidate two years ago and she got thumped by a troll.

Sometimes down here some Dems aren't all that recognizable. Until they learn to run as Dems - and win as Dems - they aren't likely to get very far. Hell - in some cases I'd just be happy if they lost a real Dems!

11. So what's this guy Conley like?
DINO? He couldn't be worse than Ms. Lindsey.

17. Whoa
Endorsed by Pat Buchanan? A defender of Sarah Palin?

I'm sorry I asked!

I guess we're stuck with Lindsay for another 6 years!

16. Not so much that he is popular, he doesn't have any serious competition.
Conley is a nut job neoconfederate that was a member of the Horry County GOP until he ran in the Dem primary. I wouldn't vote for him. I am abstaining on the Senatorial race this time around.

22. Not really. But even with the 50-state strategy, we need candidates
From what I remember there just wasn't a Dem candidate with a convincing case in SC this year. We can't win them all, just 90% or so of them...

6. Congressional Quarterly
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 09:49 PM by wicasa
rates the race as "safe Republican."

Sorry to have to deliver bad news.

Good news?

McConnell's Kentucky seat is rated "leaning Republican."
Chambliss' Georgia seat is rated "leaning Republican."
Coleman's Minnesota seat is listed "no clear favorite."
Smith's Oregon seat is listed "no clear favorite."
Dole's North Carolina seat is listed "no clear favorite."
Sununu's New Hampshire seat is listed "leaning Democratic."
Steven's Alaska seat is listed as "leaning Democratic"--how this comes out will likely depend on the trial where presentation of evidence ended today.
Every Democratic held seat is listed at least "leaning Democratic" and all except Louisiana are listed at least "Democrat favored".
Democrats are also favored to pick up seats in Virginia, Colorado, and New Mexico where Republican incumbents are retiring

9. McConnell and Chambliss were also considered "safe" until fairly recently
Now with just two weeks before the election there may not be much we can do, but I thought I'd throw this out there.

10. Graham was up like 16 pts last poll I saw. I'm more interested in the Ketner/Brown race.
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 09:14 PM by Skip Intro

unless there's some major upheaval in my state, lg will win reelection, my state is solid red

however - there is an interesting race in the fist district for the US House - longtime repuke Henry Brown is in a real fight for the first district US House race against challenger Linda Ketner. The district covers somewhat liberal leaning Charleston (I'm in one of its suburbs) and Myrtle Beach. Haven't seen any polls, but she's got some real presence here - lot of tv ads and signs everywhere. And Brown is, judging from his most recent ads, a little worried.

Linda Ketner (D-SC1) Named to DCCC's Red to Blue Program
http://lindaketner.com/node/257

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee today added Linda Ketner to its “Red to Blue” program. Ketner earned a spot in the competitive program by establishing significant local support and skillfully showing South Carolina’s voters that she stands for change and will represent new priorities.

The Red to Blue program highlights top Democratic campaigns across the country, and offers them financial, communications, and strategic support. The program introduces Democratic supporters to new, competitive candidates in order to help expand the fundraising base for their campaigns.

“I am honored to be included in the Red to Blue program and really appreciate the support it represents,” says Ketner.

DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen said, "Linda Ketner is running a solid campaign and is committed to making things easier for middle class families in her district. With less than 21 days to make his case for change to voters, the Red to Blue program will give Linda the financial and structural edge to be even more competitive in November."

Linda Ketner is a proven leader and successful businessperson with an independent voice who has worked across party lines on the citizen side of politics for decades in South Carolina. Linda has worked as a management consultant for many Fortune 500 companies as well as government and nonprofit organizations. As a community leader, she has founded organizations for change and been recognized for her service with many community awards. Linda is running for Congress to help repair our damaged economy and to make government work again for the people of South Carolina.

Red to Blue was a proven success in the 2006 cycle. In 2006, the Red to Blue program raised nearly $22.6 million for 56 campaigns averaging $404,000 per campaign. Red to Blue was also responsible for solidifying the structure of dozens of campaigns and making a real difference for Democrats across America.

Brown fighting for political life in the SC-01
http://lindaketner.com/node/256

One of South Carolina's most notorious GOP incumbents is back in the national headlines today.

Rep. Henry Brown is featured in Tuesday's edition of Politico as one of several GOP House incumbents unexpectedly "fighting for their political lives" in races against strong Democratic challengers this year.

According to Politico, Brown's First Congressional District challenger -- Charleston businesswoman Linda Ketner -- "has outspent Brown, and even Republican operatives acknowledge the race is competitive."

"With her buying a lot of TV ads, it raises the specter that she can run a competitive race," said Jay Ragley, executive director of the state's Republican Party.
Though not as bad as the recent negative press on his lingering forest fire drama, it's still gotta burn to be called out by your own party as one of this year's weakest links.

The RNC wants Brown and other vulnerable incumbents to go negative against their Democratic rivals, but the national Party has little money to help out struggling House members like Brown. Just last week, the NRCC was forced to take out an $8 million dollar loan in an attempt to shore-up their growing number of at-risk House candidates.

However, don't underestimate Brown. The four-term incumbent entered his 2008 re-election bid against Ketner with a sizable $1.2 million war chest, and with one of the best S.C. political operatives running his campaign (Rod Shealy), there's no telling how negative the Brown campaign will go before Election Day.

maybe she's one we could help...

12. I hate hate HATE Graham BUT...
watching him remain and chew his own face off in a STRONGLY Democratic controlled Congress is ALMOST as much fun as watching him lose his bid for re-election

to acknowledge the guy. And he won. What does that tell you??

20. I had a feeling that given the overall political climate this year
that he might be vulnerable. A lot has changed since the primary season.

Unfortunately his "Democratic" challenger doesn't seem like he would be much of an improvement.
