Poll question: What kind of pie will you eat on election day?
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 12:14 AM by ahem
It's unavoidable. Pie is the obvious post-poll nosh for all Obama supporters. Which kind will mark the occasion for you?

ETA: Sweet potato because, well, duh.

5. ooh! Lemon Meringue seems to be an early favorite!
We need to have its absence from the poll thoroughly investigated.

I blame Jeremiah Wright and the rest of the Muslins.

2. I will be making a lemon meringue pie.
It is the only thing I know how to cook. lol

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
1 (8-inch) crumb or baked pie shell
1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND® Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
1/2 cup lemon juice from concentrate
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
2 eggs, separated
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar, if desired
4 tablespoons sugar

DIRECTIONS
In mixing bowl, combine EAGLE BRAND®, lemon juice, lemon rind or extract, and egg yolks; stir until mixture thickens. Pour into chilled crumb crust or cooled pastry shell.
Add cream of tartar to egg whites; beat until almost stiff enough to hold a peak. Add sugar gradually, beating until stiff and glossy but not dry. Pile lightly on pie filling.
Bake 325 degrees F. until meringue is lightly browned. Cool.

21. It is heavenly - from Bakers Square
It's a pie made by a restaurant chain up here called Bakers Square. It is so darn good. It's basically layers of chocolate silk, caramel, pecans, cream cheese and whipped cream on a graham cracker crust. I definitely order one every Thanksgiving.

Here's a link on the Bakers Square website about their pies, just in case you want to drool a little more. Ha!

16. Oh, come on! This is DU!
Does the pie have crust? If so, is it on the bottom AND top, or just the bottom? Is it made with Splenda? LARD??? Are we contributing to the delinquency of overweight Americans by even suggesting that they eat pie? Does it contain tofu? What if it's made with moosemeat..is it still a pie?

That's what my kids call evey pie I'm gonna bake ever since I fell asleep while having two pumpkin pies in the oven a few years ago. Filled the house up with the nice charred smell of incinerated pumpkin.

They came out looking like two clinkers from a coking oven.

from scratch. And oh my, with some vanilla bean ice cream on top it's just wonderful.

We used to gather pecans from the trees in our yard to make the pie. It was a wonderful experience.

84. Many, many pies
I will start with chicken pot pie...
followed by pecan, sweet potato, coconut custard, lemon, blueberry, chocolate and peanut butter.

I'm thinking it may be a short evening, and I won't have time to get to all of them.

But I can keep eating my pies on Nov. 5.

85. Cherry with homemade latticework crust...
...but my Mom has to make it.

Or chocolate cream with homemade meringue, but my Mom has to make it.

I myself make a killer sour cherry crumble.

But I digest.
