Does anyone else get the feeling the Kerry campaign "is listening"
Edited on Sun Sep-05-04 11:07 PM by mzmolly
I mean, I've watched Democrats lose elections in the past, while I became increasingly frustrated saying "why in the heck don't they do x!" it seems when we say such things about Kerry, one week later he does x.

I am so impressed with their taking suggestions seriously from the likes of me/you. Not that I credit myself or DU with any of said changes, because Clinton *cough* at it was pointed out, has a bit more clout I'm sure ... but it's just so exciting to see a campaign "make some fargen sense and adjust as needed!"

I am so encouraged at the recent development of the addition of Carville and Begala. ~ Which by the way, is the inspiration for my post. :hi:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/06/politics/campaign/06kerry.html?hp=&pagewanted=print&position=

Former President Bill Clinton, in a 90-minute telephone conversation from his hospital room, offered John Kerry detailed advice on Saturday night on how to reinvigorate his candidacy, as Mr. Kerry enlisted more Clinton advisers to help shape his strategy and message for the remainder of the campaign.

In an expansive conversation, Mr. Clinton told Mr. Kerry that he should move away from talking about Vietnam, which had been the central theme of his candidacy, and focus instead on drawing contrasts with President Bush on job creation and health care policies, officials with knowledge of the conversation said.

The conversation and the recruitment of old Clinton hands came amid rising concern among Democrats about the state of Mr. Kerry's campaign and criticism that he had been too slow to respond to attacks on his military record or to engage Mr. Bush on domestic policy. Among the better-known former Clinton aides who are expected to play an increasingly prominent role are James Carville, Paul Begala and Stanley Greenberg, campaign aides said.

Wow, I expect some fireworks after they adjust folks !

1. Well I guess Bill hasn't been paying attention either
Edited on Sun Sep-05-04 10:26 PM by A_Possum
He HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT JOB CREATION AND HEALTH CARE.

Nobody f**K*IG reports it.

Pardon my language.

Maybe if he reads it here on DU, he'll get a clue. ;-)

3. Sure... We know we've had a connected strategist posting/linking here
and we also know Elizabeth Edwards lurks. I'm sure (good and bad) our comments and thoughts are getting back to them.

6. Are Carville and Begala officially in? And do they keep their CNN jobs?

I was so impressed by Kerry's midnight rally speech (in which he mentioned Halliburton, the Saudis, and Bush's refusal to go overseas), that I'm having some buttons made up:

8. I don't think they pay as much attention as we think.
It's not like many of us here at DU are going to vote for *. We are the votes in the bag.

On the other hand... just in case Kerry is reading this: You Rock!!!

13. I don't either, but it's been amazing how what WE cry out for, happens.
I've watched other campaigns in frustration, and it seems like they overlook the obvious. It's great to feel like they're on the same wave length.

9. There may have been a few heavy hitters who had an influence ;^)

Like, no offense, Bill Clinton.

I think having some extra experience, particularly Sasso, may work to focus Kerry on a message and lessen his garrulousness.

10. That's why it's so important not to stifle criticisms/discussions
of the campaign. You never know when the campaign might decide that a DUer's idea has potential.

16. Overheard in Bill's room today:
"Transfusions??? Let's ALL have one, shall we?"

Not a MOMENT to soon to bring back the Ragin' Cajun.

Stanch that blood flow. Make that heart pump. No crashcarts needed on our side, thankyouverymuch.

if only because we all told him the exact same thing: to quote one DU-er, "TURN UP THE HEAT OR GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!"

If one person calls you a jackass, forget it. If ten people call you a jackass, buy yourself a saddle.

12. Yes, Kerry has been talking about these issues, BUT...
The key phrase here is "drawing contrasts" between himself and Bush in job and healthcare, and THAT he has not been doing enough of or as loud as he needs to. Once he does, expect a huge poll bounce.

14. Yea and

How many times can Kerry say

"There are 45 million people w/o health care...and we need jobs"....

It goes further than just those talking points.

The question is what kind of world do we leave our kids.

15. I will have no problem with Clinton's advice to move away from
discussing Vietnam. But since W*&Co won't let Kerry do so, then I Kerry should not hamstring democratic surrogates from responding on his behalf especially MoveOn.org. My position is that we should return fire whenever we are fired upon by the reThuglicans.

18. I'm pretty sure they do
I visited Kerry Campaign Headquarters in Gainesville a few weeks ago, and the folks there were definitely keeping on top of what we do over here. They are also monitoring a bunch of other sites, just like most of us do.

The Kerry campaign has a lot of young and tech savvy kids working for them and they are definitely on top of things.

20. That's very interesting. I was so impressed with their taking calls
also, and really engaging in conversation. They seemed to genuinely CARE what the voters think.
