I was watching CNN American Morning while drinking my coffee, and they just aired a piece Schlepping to Florida following a young write Mike Bender's visit to his grandparents on the Great Schlep.

I'm not Jewish. But oddly enough, growing up in an orthodox Jewish neighborhood in Crown Heights Brooklyn, in my grandparents house in the late 40's and early 50's, I knew almost no people who were gentiles, other than family members and a few non-Jewish friends of my parents. All my play pals spoke both Yiddish and Hebrew, and I even went to Hebrew day school as a little kid. I, like my friends called my grandparents Bubbe and Zayde - though I got the pronunciation wrong and for the rest of my life my grandmother was "Bobby" and my granddad was "JaJa".

<snip>

Comedian {sic} Jackie Mason has attacked Sarah Silverman on this, and has been answered by yet another comic:

Maron v Seder: Sam Seder's rebuttal of Jackie Mason's rebuttal of Sarah Silverman's The Great Schlep

1. And Obama going to see his grandmother helps, too!
Suspending a campaign to be with a tutu has got to play well with the Bubbes.

4. Ahh... the Dennis Miller Effect...
Once the mental illness of conservatism sets in, you lose your sense of humor, AND irony. All that's left is a seltzer bottle and a pie in the face.;)

5. My Jewish grandmother in Florida just said she and her friends are not voting this year
I really thought she'd vote for Obama. She has always been racist but she has gotten so much less so over the years. She loved Obamas speech in 2004. My father has been calling her telling her she needs to vote. I'd call her but I'm probably her least favorite grand child. I once told her to "shut the fuck up" at dinner(this was years ago, she was spewing some racist garbage). I think I'll have my wife call her, my grandmother loves her.

9. Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

They already believe they have an invisible friend in the sky.

But you WOULD think that those to whom "Never Again" has a special meaning would have learned that lesson.

But sadly, not always.

10. I don't get her. She's always voted democratic too.
None of it adds up. Just ignorance.

8. don't feel too bad
iti is better that she pass and stay at home than vote for MCcain though one more for Barack would be good.

11. I know it's better than a vote for McCain. Not by a lot though.
My wife had asked me just last week if my grandmother would vote for Obama. I said of course, she always votes for Democrats and had praised Obama in the past.

12. From where did Jackie Mason crawl?
Never could stand him but I thought that he long retired... at least.
