Long line in Austin TX. Just early voted --- GOBAMA!
Coworker had to leave yesterday because the line was too long. I managed to stick it out today. 30 mins.

1. Malfunction of machine in Medina Co.
The one and only machine in Medina Co. was not working correctly. I heard a lady tell the man..." i'll show you how to do it..." yeah I bet she shows him how to use the republican straight ticket. :ivoted:

3. Only one machine for early voting or only one machine, period?
There are only about 200 voters in my rural New york precinct, and only about 200 in my parents' suburban Upstate NY precinct. We share 4 machines with 4 3 other precincts at the fire hall. What gives with the long lines in other places?

4. For early voting just one machine
Not sure about election day, I've always voted early since they started offering it.

:headbang: I voted!

6. They used to come to the nursing homes in Texas to "help" people vote.
They used to come to the nursing homes in Texas to "help" people vote. I happened to be in one visiting my grandmother one day, I think it was 2000 (or maybe 96 or 98 -- she wasn't in the home very long, but that decade's pretty hazy in my brain). Anyway, they came around with the absentee ballots "helping" people vote.

"No, you want to mark the straight Republican one!"
"But I'm not a Republican!"
"Yes you are, don't you remember?"

They were putting pens in the hands of catatonics in fetal positions and guiding them to mark the Republican straight ticket. They tried that shit with my great aunt Polly (who shared a room with my grandmother), who said, "Mister, no one in this family's voted for a Republican since the Civil War, and I'm sure as hell not going to start now." She told off the first President Bush with the same line back in '92, too. She was damned near 100 years old, had been consistently drunk for 85 of those years, and was sharp as a tack till the day she died.

2. All Politics are LOCAL
All Politics are LOCAL

The Texas House districts were drawn to elect nearly 100 Republicans. Five years ago, House Republicans led the chamber 88-62. Today, that lead has dwindled to 79-71 -- and without too much imagination, we may yet see Texas Democrats retake the Texas House.

It will take serious work, though. Texas Democrats are running in deeply Republican districts across the state. That's a sign of how terribly the Republican brand of governing -- led by House Speaker Tom Craddick -- has failed Texas families over the past five years...House Democrats will gain net seats this cycle -- the question is just, how many.

5. Just voted too
I just early voted in Round Rock, north of Austin. Normally the room is vacant except for me. This time every voting booth was occupied. It's a wonderful thing to see! I cannot wait for Nov 4!!
