Liberals Hate Real Americans

Rep. Robin Hayes (R-N.C.) has conceded that he did tell a North Carolina crowd that "liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and achieve and believe in God," even though he initially denied making such a statement.

Now he says he didn’t mean it that way and he was just trying to rev up a campaign rally.

“I genuinely did not recall making the statement and, after reading it, there is no doubt that it came out completely the wrong way. I actually was trying to work to keep the crowd as respectful as possible, so this is definitely not what I intended,” Hayes said in a statement for Politico.

This is just great. The Republicans used the talking points they were handed and now they're roasting slowly over a spit as their Dem opponents use the long rake to gather donations.

Translation: Liberals are not real Americans. They don't work, don't accomplish anything & don't believe in God.

First, I'd like to change the word that to the word who. Rep. Hayes' grammar leaves something to be desired. No, no. I'm not perfect, and that wording is the least of the problems with Hayes' statement.

"Liberals hate real Americans..."

So liberals aren't actually real Americans? Despite the fact that I was born and raised in the United States, work in the United States, pay taxes to the United States and various forms of local government, and am raising my family in the United States, I am not actually a "real American" because my political views don't mesh with those of Representative Hayes?

So there are no liberal Americans who work? None who accomplish or achieve? None who believe in God? Every liberal in America fails to meet even one of those criteria? Fully half the country - and probably then some - are not real Americans?

Why, Representative Hayes? Why are we not real Americans? Are nationalism, jingoism, and racism true American values? I believe, Representative Hayes, that I am my brother's keeper. I believe that when this country offers the best of what it has to all of its citizens equally, only then will we stop the politics of hatred and divisiveness which you yourself and others of your ilk have fomented and stoked.

Denouncing half the people who make up this country, work for this country, and serve this country as not "real Americans" is the essence of hatred. It is not the liberals who fuel the fires of hatred, Representative Hayes. It is you. And you should be ashamed of yourself.
