2. I've heard about this email in PA, too!
According to party officials, a voter contacted the county Democratic Party after examining information Williamson County Elections Administrator Rick Barron had circulated via e-mail concerning a straight ticket vote.

"A voter can vote straight party and have all of their votes count, the e-mail states. They can also vote straight party and then select every Democrat again, if they so chose."

According to campaign officials, when an east Williamson County voter voted using electronic machines, she selected a straight party ticket, effectively selecting each Democrat on the ballot. She then went back and selected a Democrat’s name again. By doing so, it unchecked that selection, according to a release from one of the campaigns.

I think if the person sending this is caught they should be prosecuted for interfering with a persons vote.

5. As a software engineer this problem sounds like bad user interface design.
Clicking straight party should select or deselect ALL D's but should prompt OK / CANCEL first.

Clicking any individual candidate should NOT do anything to any OTHER candidate unless it is an opponent in the same race in which case it should deselect the previously selected opponent. What should then happen is that the "straight party" button should "tri-state" to checked but grayed out indicating that it was originally checked but some individual names have been overrriden.

The precedent for this U/I behavior should be how file properties work in windows when a group of files is selected with different properties like read only, system, hidden, etc in varying states.

If as described, clicking an individual after selecting straight party resets all other voters for straight party this is a bug that ought to be fixed.
