Is it time to write to and call Gov. Ed Rendell?
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 06:15 PM by FrenchieCat
I don't think he gets it! I don't think he understands that whatever he is trying to do, we don't really like his approach. I realize that he thinks he knows everything, but he is starting to get on my nerves.

Phone: (717) 787-2500
Fax: (717) 772-8284

My letter To Mr. Rendell sent via contact form- http://sites.state.pa.us/PA_Exec/Governor/govmail.html

Dear Gov. Rendell,
As an American, I am asking that you begin to think hard before you speak on National Television in reference to our Presidential elections. You see, currently, my life depends on your mouth, unfortunately. I would prefer that you approach this election with a bit more confidence in our Democratic nominee, and stop giving the appearance that somehow there is a possibility that he might not win the state of Pennsylvania, when all polls signal otherwise.

Again, my life and the life of my children truly depend on Americans getting it right, and electing Barack Obama on November 4th. As you are the Governor of Pennsylvania, I expect some wise politicking on your part in support of Barack Obama. It is crucial not only to this great country, but as well to the world. This election is not about you, Gov. Rendell, this election is about the future of millions. Your mission is to make it so, not to sow doubts.

Respectfully,

4. Frankly, no.
His appearance, no matter what his motivations, has gotten people here to sit up and take notice. It's a fight against complacency. I wish more DUers would remember that this thing isn't over for another two weeks.

21. bottom line is:
we must win Penn

i believe mccain is following advice from a ny times article last week outlining a strategy for a narrow rethug win

by getting ohio, florida, missouri, penn and nevada

it urged mccain to pull resources out of states that are not crucial and where he does not stand a chance

perhaps rendell is urging against complacency?

we must fight to widen our lead in penn

what do the internals say?

13. I have seen Rendell speak several times since the convention including LIVE and in Person
the guy is NOT trying to cost Obama the election. He is trying to point out the obvious that this race is not done yet and McCain/Palin are spending a shitload of time & money in Pennsylvania.

the math is simple.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/calculator/index.html

Start with all the states being divided by who won then in 2004 as the starting point. (Obama 252, McCain 286)
Now give Obama the 3 states that McCain has pulled out of (CO, IA, NM) (Obama 273, McCain 265)
- Ok now we've won and we didn't have to pick up any other red state including Ohio and Florida BUT this isn't in the bag yet.

If McCain steals Pennsylvania by using major voter harassment tactics in the city AND/OR getting the recount out of the state and into the higher courts - we could lose Pennsylvania. And as a poll worker in Pennsylvania from prior elections I've seen some really nasty shit.

You want to assume Pennsylvania, or for that matter, any other swing state is in the bag - go ahead.

Rendell is smart! We should thank him for this!

10. FUCK NO! I'll fax and thank him for staying vigilant against a McFascist clusterfuck!
This is the neo-con's last gasp! Yes, it's transparently desperate, but dismissing it in a show of "confidence" before the ballots are cast is the LAST thing Rendell should do.

17. I don't think he's ignoring the polls saying we're up anywhere from 11 to 16 points now.
He doesn't want that number to go down, and just wants volunteers to get back in the game.

16. No.
It's time for everyone to make a sprint to the finish line and do all we can to GOTV regardless of what the polls say.

Rendell is a consummate politician. He knows that McCain will do everything he can to take PA. McCain made 2 campaign stops here today. He's still running a lot of ads. He will do everything he can to suppress the vote which is why his campaign has filed a lawsuit against ACORN. He knows we cannot afford to be complacent.

Rendell knows that Pennsylvania loses if McCain wins.

18. No. ABSOLUTELY NOT.
The fact of the matter is that people all over -- including here -- are starting to get way too complacent and cocky. The very thing that both Senator Obama and Governor Rendell are warning us about. People need to, not only be reminded of this, but also of the fact that these bastards have stolen elections for years in THIS century -- we CANNOT let up. We cannot and Rendell is do the right thing.

Governor Rendell knows exactly what he is doing, unlike some of the complacent amateurs here. The Repubs have one goal in PA, to STEAL the election and they will if the majority for Sen. Obama isn't big. Thank God we Dems have experienced professionals like Rendell who will keep us on track instead of foolishly declaring victory before November 5.

And he's going to make sure Sen Obama wins it, come hell or high water. Don't worry. I grew up with him as my mayor...he's an ass sometimes, but he's very smart about PA politics.
