I'm going to friends house, I'll try to bring something appropriate. But I'll be exausted working the polls so I'll have to pick something up. Maybe Ben and Gerry's Ice Cream.

14. These are ~~MY~~ FAVORITE COCKTAIL CHICKEN WINGS
FAVORITE COCKTAIL CHICKEN WINGS (good appetizers)

I have been making these for about 20 years!! Every Christmas we have a Christmas Party and I make these for my relatives. If I don't, I hear about it!! They are just wonderful.

MY FAVORITE COCKTAIL CHICKEN WINGS

1 Cup soy sauce ( I use reduced sodium)
1/4 Cup oil
1/4 cup sherry (Cocktail Sherry)
3 tsp sugar
1 tsp ginger
2 cloves chopped up garlic (1/4 tsp or so)
3 pounds chicken wings - Cut the wing into 2 pieces...the little "drum stick" and the 2nd joint. Discard the tip. Remove some of the fatty skin - It makes the wings less fatty.

Marinade chicken pieces (at least 2-3 hours) or overnight in sauce. Bake 1 1/2 to 2 hours in 325 degree oven. Turn often to distribute in marinade.

You can increase ginger a little for more kick and putting in a little more sherry is okay too.

Serve with Napkins (you may not need them because you'll lick the sauce off your fingers)

25. Obama's chili recipe
From Huffington Post, back in March:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/04/obamas-chili-recipe_n_89826.html

Obama Family Chili Recipe

1 large onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
Several cloves of garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground turkey or beef
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground oregano
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon ground basil
1 tablespoon chili powder
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
Several tomatoes, depending on size, chopped
1 can red kidney beans

Saute onions, green pepper and garlic in olive oil until soft.

Add ground meat and brown.

Combine spices together into a mixture, then add to ground meat.

Add red wine vinegar.

Add tomatoes and let simmer, until tomatoes cook down.

Add kidney beans and cook for a few more minutes.

Serve over white or brown rice. Garnish with grated cheddar cheese, onions and sour cream.

My plans for election night.

Menu: 2 or 3 Subway foot long sandwiches to last evening and night long with leftovers. I plan on eating as the night rolls on. Refrigerator cold plate of those cold cut and meatball sandwiches. Mmmm.

Tortia chips and 2 kinds of dip. Maybe spinich dip and a bean or queso dip. Not sure yet.

Mini chocolite bars to nibble on while returns come in.

Soda pop to drink all night long. Was going to go beer but I want to be sober for the win.

As I nibble I will be watching returns and having several tabs in my browser open. Those tabs will be: Abc news auto updating election numbers. 270TOWIN.COM interactive map. I will project states as I see fit. A second electoral map so that I can put know red and known blue state in and add close states as they comein so that I can get a more acurrate snapshot of what states are needed. Also my own states SEC of STATE's page with live numbers on all Georgia races + the McCain/Obama results for Ga.

I'll have the Democratic Underground in a tab so that I can read and post. :)

In another window I'm going to have Sec Of State pages all tabbed with live feeds of numbers from key battleground states to compare them with what ABC News online is showing and what Tv channels are reporting. at least 10 states will be closely monitored by me all night long.

I've modeled my election night like a typical campaign headquarters of election nights old. Old politicos standing around munching sandwiches and eating chips and dip while talking, getting numbers from precicts, and watching returns. They might of had bubbly though and beer though. I might get some beer also.

Trivia:

RFK and others were on phones checking numbers all night long in 1960 while JFK watched and checked in for more numbers from Bobby.

1976 Ford was about to go to bed when an advisor came upstares with news that Ford was going to surely lose. He saw how tired Ford
looked and did not give him the numbers. He could not bring himself to do it.

FDR would go to his Hyde Park NY home. Have dinner with people. Then he would seclude himself in the dinning room. He was brought in numbers all night and he crunched the numbers himself. These were long nights for FDR but he crunched the numbers untill was assured of victory. Then he would go out and greet his supporters.

I know my phone is going to be ringing off the hook with everyone watching something different. Things are going to be moving very quickly between 7-9PM so an information overload may occur. I'm going to vote first thing (polls open at 6AM in NY) so I can run right home, feed the cats and plop down on the sofa to watch the returns with both my landline and cell phones in front of me.

But great idea having chocolate on hand - there is nothing that chocolate doesn't make better.

Edited to add: Interesting info on past election night activities. I know Sen Obama is planning on being in a park but is that where he'll be getting the returns?
