I'm a grassroots volunteer for the Obama for Change campaign in a small town
in VA (mostly a Republican state). I was in the local office making our neighbor-to-neighbor calls and I got a call I couldn't believe. The conversation went something like this:

1. Hello, could I speak to Jane Smith.
2. This is Jane Smith.
3. Hi Mrs. Smith my name is Sue Jones and I'm calling in regards to the Obama campaign for change and wonder if you have time to answer a couple questions for me today.
4. YOU DAMN DEMOCRATS NEED TO GET YOUR ASSES BACK IN CHURCH. YOU'RE NOTHING BUT BABY KILLERS AND FAG LOVERS AND OBAMA WANTS TO ALLOW THEM TO GET MARRIED . . .
5. No mam, Mr. Obama stated that . . .
6. I HEARD THE DAMN MAN ON THE TV SAY HE WAS. YOU DEMOCRATS ARE JUST EVIL, PURE EVIL.
7. I'm sorry you feel that way.
8. WELL I DO AND YOU BETTER START PRAYING FOR YOUR SOUL CAUSE YOU ALL ARE GOING TO HELL FOR KILLING ALL THE BABIES.
9. Well thank you for your time today. Will you be needing a ride to the polls.
10. HELL NO, GOD WILL MAKE SURE I GET TO THE POLLS
11. Well mam you have a blessed day.
12. YOU HAVE A BLESSED DAY AND DON'T BE CALLING HERE ANYMORE.

There was a lot more said in between in the conversation but I kept having to take the phone away from my head due to her screaming.

As a post note, the lady beside me asked me why I offered her a ride to the polls? I told her I was just trying to do the right thing and be a true Christian.

12. Kool - I also have relatives in Bristol
Abingdon, and Lebanon!! Welcome to DU (we could be related). Have you been around Coeburn area and what that area looks like as far as signs go? I know that a lot of my relatives in that area would not vote for a Dem (God, Guns & Gays) (Especially the Gays).

10. I always try to take the high road and be polite if I'm even wearing an Obama button.
I let people into the traffic stream -- hoping they'll see my Obama bumper sticker and have a subliminal positive connection with the name Obama. I open doors for people, I speak politely, etc ... I'm always VERY aware I've got my button on and am driving in a car with a bumper sticker (and not just Obama's but another local Democratic candidate).

Perhaps that nasty woman will at least remember that you were polite, and offered her a ride to the polls (even if she thinks you're going to hell). Ya did good!

20. I figured that would be the appropriate way to handle it. I wouldn't have been able
to talk rationally to this screaming right wingnut.

7. She has bought into all the hate and fear, and that is where she
wants to stay until she feels safe again, or until she realizes that she should remember what has happened to this country and not what is said by RNC

I just received a robo-call from RNC about clean coal. Of course it was erroneous. It was an old recording of Biden saying we would not support clean coal.

We know that he is with the Obama administration now and that is not how Obama feels, but the RNC thinks that will prove us lefty lib'rls are untrustworthy.

Now your lady will have more misinformation to spew.. sad.

Let's hope we will get through this with the best possible outcome.

An Obama Presidency!

17. "Mostly a Republican state" ....... not in this decade!
Mark Warner....Democrat elected Governor
Jim Webb....Democrat elected Senator
Tim Kaine....Democrat elected
Mark Warner...Democratic senatorial candidate double digits ahead in the polls.
Barack Obama...Democratic presidential candidate ahead in the polls.

You might live in a heavily Republican district, but Virginia is hardly a mostly republican state.

19. I meant as far as voting for a President was concerned. They haven't voted in a democrat
President since 1964. If Obama wins VA, it will be the first time since 1964 that Virginians voted for a democrat for president. I know it's weird they vote senate, governor, house rep, all dems but not presidents.
