Great story on Politico - very moving
From Evansville, Indiana:

For me the most moving moment came when the family in front of me, comprising probably 4 generations of voters (including an 18 year old girl voting for her first time and a 90-something hunched-over grandmother), got their turn to vote. When the old woman left the voting booth she made it about halfway to the door before collapsing in a nearby chair, where she began weeping uncontrollably. When we rushed over to help we realized that she wasn't in trouble at all but she had not truly believed, until she left the booth, that she would ever live long enough to cast a vote for an African-American for president. Anyone who doesn't think that African-American turnout will absolutely SHATTER every existing record is in for a very rude surprise.

6. And I hope and pray that Obama's grandmother lives long
enough to see what is about to happen. Of all people, she should not miss out on that.

They can try, but they wont succeed.

12. Wow. She has waited a long, long time.
I wonder if Abraham Lincoln or people like Frederick Douglas ( an african american abolitionist) could have envisioned that one day a half white/ half black man could run for president and may also win? I doubt he would have believed it.

13. I got a chill down my spine when I read that
So lovely.

I vacillate between worrying about election fraud and thinking that we are about to see the beginning of a whole new age.

14. 3 generations of my family voted together yesterday
My 78 year old mother, my 23 year old niece, and my 51 year old self.

Later, at lunch, my mother gently chided me when I said we'd just made history.

She said - we didn't vote for a color, we voted for a man.

Now, that's the dream come true. And from a woman raised by a man - who freely used the "n" word - because that's what he was taught.

16. That is very moving. I'm so excited about this as a canadian that I
sometimes forget how very much Obama must mean to so many people. He is surely a transformational leader. He will change the world.

20. I keep on saying that I probably won't cry..
.. but who am I kidding.. really?

We're going to see a TON of happy tears on television in two weeks, and it's going to hit me right in the stomach, just like this story did.

22. Wow!
This post has me in tears. I cannot wait to take my 10 year old daughter into the booth with me as we vote for Barack Obama, not because he is black but because he right. Maybe she'll end up being the first black woman president. :-)
