I was curious about this, because people say that Democrats cant get 50% of the vote, and that Clinton only won cause of Perot, but taht he couldnt win 50%.

What I found was interesting. Many Democrats have gotten 50% in the past (not many in the last 100 years, but overall, a lot).

However, just THREE Democrats have ever won 51% of the presidential vote. Lyndon Johnson in 1964, FDR all four times he was elected, and Andrew Jackson both times he was elected.

538 projects Obama to break the 51% mark. So do you think he will be just the fourth Democrat to win 51% of the popular vote and thus have a significant claim to a mandate?

4. Clinton came close in 96, 49.2%
Oddly enough, I didn't remember that Perot still sucked up over 8% of the vote in 96.
