Why I am obviously hallucinating
I find that the way this nation has been devolving mirrors previous interests and views.

Almost everything I saw hovering off stage right after I had my stroke has rolled down the pike past my front door or through my browser.

I studied third world folkways and political systems of resource economy states, how they did or did not provide healthcare, then our healthcare system became third world.

I studied the Civil War in Missouri and predicted the same sort of debacle in Iraq. It exceeded my expectations in brutality and stupid fecklessness.

I studied Dada and Surrealism, and here we are, in the world's largest Harold Pinter play.

I studied linguistics and literature, and our brave new world is double plus good.

I studied the middle ages, and here stands Sarah Palin, champion of 14th Century Values.

2. I love reading an intelligent OP from Kansans
We ain't all az dum as we look. But, I know what you're saying. I knew our time was coming, that our empire would end. But, it all seems so surreal. I remember being with my Afghani friend (here in K.C.) and on the eve of "Shock and Awe" we looked at each other and said. Civil War.

We are so dependent on our health care system as part of our economy, yet it will be the cancer that kills us. Endless cycle.

3. I was in a production of Jean Genet's The Balcony back in the 70s
and it seems weirdly prescient now.
