3. No. This is completely serious.
The Republican party has really sunk this far.

And then truly become a conservative party.

I think money talks in this one, though, which favors Bloomberg.

15. Agree that the fundies would squawk somethin' fierce but
Bloomberg deals with deeply factional folks as mayor.

I wonder if he might just whip out the checkbook and start to undo the far-right fundamentalists' position. He could launch region-specific ads that argue that a wider circle is required for a spiritual solution for a New Century, etc. etc.

16. Jindal isn't a legitimate Republican
Neither is Bloomberg.

Both would be better off leaving the party to its demise, like Ichiro should leave the Mariners.

11. There already are rumors about Palin in 2012...
There's a suspicion in some McCain loyalist precincts that Gov. Sarah Palin is beginning to play the Republican base against John McCain -- McCain won't let her campaign in Michigan...McCain won't let her bring up Jeremiah Wright... McCain doesn't like her terrorist pal talks....

Think ahead to 2010...2011...2012.

Palin is ambitious. Very ambitious.

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/10/palin_1.php

Conservative Republicans are talking enthusiastically about Mrs Palin as a White house contender next time, acknowledging that if a week is a long time in politics then four years amounts to several lifetimes.

"Sarah's the one," said one leading conservative who is convinced Mr McCain will lose this election. "The party is broken and only she can fix it. We need someone who comes from outside Washington and relates to the aspirations of ordinary Americans."

Mrs Palin appears to be subtly distancing herself from Mr McCain and positioning herself for a presidential run in her own right, much as John Edwards did in 2004 as John Kerry's Democratic vice-presidential running mate.

13. History tells us that getting your ass kicked leads to pushing a hard "base" candidate next cycle
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 11:58 PM by davepc
Who also gets crushed.

It took 3 ass kickings by Regan/Bush I to get a moderate Democrat elected.

Even thought it wasent a landslide in 1960, the '64 Republicans told themselves if they just ran a more Republican Republican then Nixon they would of won. Then Goldwater got crushed.

They'll push Palin or somebody else like her.
