NEW info on B Girl story from Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - POLICE TO ADMINISTER POLYGRAPH TEST

A knife-wielding man robbed a McCain-Palin campaign volunteer and etched a "B" into her face after he saw a McCain bumper sticker on her car, the woman told Pittsburgh police.

Police planned to administer a polygraph test to Ashley Todd, 20, because her statements about the attack conflict with evidence from the Citizens Bank ATM where she claims the incident occurred, police said.

The rest of the story is just a recap of yesterday's story.

10. They have no intention of polygraphing her for a false police report
It's too expensive. They're giving her an out before the polygraph, and if her Daddy's lawyer has an ounce of sense, they're going to take it. Expect recantation by 11am EDT.

I'll bet she has a long, hard night of thinking ahead of her...

This is going to be humiliating for her and for her family.

Of course, as another poster so aptly put it, this is the sort of bullshit that got black men killed at random in this country for much of the 20th century, so I don't feel too bad for this desperate, over-excited, and very foolish young woman.

74. Of course, in all fairness...
...it should be pointed out that, if an assailant knocked her down so that she landed with her head at her assailant's feet, and he cut the "B" on her cheek without first turning her around, it would wind up looking backwards when viewed right-side-up.

77. then how, pray tell, would he hold her down if he was above her head???
think of the logistics there... If someone is lying face up at your feet, and what.. you're kneeling on the ground carving her face with one hand.. how are you holding her arms from fighting you off? Doesn't make sense. I've seen some people in a thread featured here from freeperville that said that same thing you did, and a few DUers have said that. There is no way he could have been above her head and carving that upside down on her face. The only way it could have been carved on a conscious person is by being on top of their body, so you could immobilize her arms with your knees, while you carved, and use your other hand to hold her head straight. STILL... there is little chance that anyone would not come out with cuts and scratches because your natural reflex is to flinch.

Now don't forget.. she works for the College Republicans.... who have perpetrated so many scams, publicity stunts, and hoaxes, themselves.

20. Sounds awful..why don't I believe it?
"He continued to kick and punch her repeatedly and said he would teach her a lesson for supporting John McCain," said police Chief Nate Harper."

"Police said Todd declined medical treatment at the scene. Her friend, a law student at University of Pittsburgh, said he took her to UPMC Shadyside for treatment."

So where's the report from UPMC Shadyside?

"Police said she described the attacker as black, about 6-foot-4, and said he was wearing dark-colored jeans and a black tank top. She said he had a knife with a 5-inch blade and ran from the scene on foot, Harper said."

They can tell if that B was done by a 5in knife blade.

34. And the other thing...
I went up and down that street on Google street view, and there was only ONE black person in like, forever. Mostly whites, and elderly on the street, cafe's, resturants, small shops, gift stores, banks, etc. Not that dangerous looking of an area if you ask me. Not to mention that there is a HUGE hospital 2 blocks down the street.

The republican guy on the news said she was on her way to a meeting, yeah, right. She said something on her blog about Starbucks, and oddly enough, there's a SB's right down the block.

She's full of shit. She did that to herself after she left the bank.

75. I know that area fairly well - used to work a bit over a mile down Liberty
It borders some areas that can be bad. There have been some robberies in the area, Bloomfield, Shady Side(which is a ritzy area), etc.

It's a city after all. You've got neighborhoods from low income to high income in close proximity. That being said Bloomfield with bars, restaurants (Yes it is the Little Italy of Pittsburgh), high street and car traffic, etc. 9 at night I wouldn't be afraid to be walking on Liberty. Can a robbery happen at an ATM? Sure. But with the high traffic including police patrols I'd figure a robber would take off running not stick around to beat a Repub over her bumper sticker.

Some here thought she was driving over from Greentree where McCain HQ is, I was reading she finished an assignment at Univ of Pittsburgh which is in Oakland not far from Bloomfield which makes some sense.

This kind of acting out indicates she's probably seriously mentally ill.

The B on her face was probably self-inflicted, and I'm not sure if the black eyes are real or not, and if they are real, they're probably self-inflicted too.

That and the whole attention-grabbing story indicates she needs therapy. No joke. She needs to talk to a shrink.

She's probably got something like Borderline Personality Disorder - which causes some very seriously fucked-up behavior, and could lead to her being a danger to herself or others. We're talking bunny-boiling psycho here.

I'm not a shrink, but I do sincerely think she needs professional help.

79. I agree. This was premeditated and done purposefully. There is no reason to believe that she has som
some psychological issue. Only that she would rather create a fake attack blaming a black guy in hopes that the racial implications arising from it would help her candidate. That is all it comes down too. She is an overzealous McCain supporter. She just assumed that if she said a big black guy beat her up, of course people would believe it, and not question her on it.

It sounds like the implication is that she didn't withdraw money from that ATM. And at this point, I bet they've checked her home bank account to see if there was a withdrawal done at any Pittsburgh bank last night.

The banks don't mess around with this stuff because it impacts their business big time if people think it's the site of a mugging.

39. 5 FUN FACTS AND 2 COINCIDENCES FOR THE "B INCIDENT"
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 11:53 PM by bluephoria
1. most obviously, the b is backwards. one can assume, that if you were dumb enough to scratch yourself in the face, you would also be dumb enough not to realize that it would show up backwards to the rest of the world
2. does that look like a knife wound to you? i don't make it a habit to get scratched by knives, but knives generally produce 2 types of wounds: lacerations and stab wounds. maybe he used a butter knife? either way, knife, toothpick, fingernail, whatever, i'm not just going to lay there idly while you scratch a stencil quality backwards B in my face.
3. the blog. what a coincidence that less than an hour before the "incident", that she would foreshadow her tragic fate (and who blogs about searching for BOA atms?)
4. i live in pittsburgh, more specifically, 3 minutes away from bloomfield. i had dinner there on saturday, its not a bad neighborhood its not the kind of place where i would expect to get mugged at 9pm on a wednesday, on the main street, in a well lit area. (we also seem to be short of corroborating witnesses)
5. the bumper sticker. i wouldn't consider myself a criminal, but i can guess that if i were mugging someone, i wouldn't be so observant in the middle of committing and armed robbery to notice the political affiliation of my victim displayed on their bumper. i'd probably be more focused on fleeing the scene of the crime.

p.s.

what poetic justice that a campaign activist would have their face carved in a hate crime so close to halloween

has anyone noticed how she looks just like the girl from silence of the lambs? silence of the lambs was filmed in pittsburgh, lol. (the real coincidence)

53. re: the bumper sticker - it was night (dark). Depending on where and
how the car was parked, and where the bumper sticker was placed on the vehicle, it would seem easy enough to prove whether it was even visible or not.

I am rarely quick to judge, but this story really does not seem at all plausible to me - on any level.

Did the assailant tell her specifically what the B was for? It seems odd that a politically passionate mugger would choose the first letter of the first name of a presidential nominee to disfigure someone with. If the politics and details were reversed and someone with an Obama bumper sticker got mugged at an ATM, and received a "J" scratched on his or her face, what would that mean to us?

Is the B for Biden or Barr, I wonder? Ridiculous.

60. It's possible that the B isn't backwards, but upside down
Though I can't imagine someone carving a B that neatly without holding her down. It seems like he'd need another person to help.
It seems most likely that she did it herself.

It'll be interesting to hear her tell the truth.

44. Am I reading these posts correctly?
From her blog. If she got attacked on Wed. 9 pm on the 22nd, aren't the post times on her blog and the comments a bit odd?

It seemed so weird but that would explain it. If that attack had happened to me I would be a basket case and I sure wouldn't be posting on a blog.

45. 2 questions:
1. Is administering polygraph tests on crime victims SOP for the majority of assault cases? I'm guessing no.

2. Is it significant that the investigators have chosen this route so quickly - and made the information public?

I realize I am basing all my views on pure conjecture (my default mode is extreme curiosity), but it does seem as though the initial skepticism of the police is fast becoming a more serious matter of the investigation of a falsified assault and the resulting crime, if true.

I'd be interested to know what the black eye looks like in a follow-up photo in order to verify that injury as well. It looks fake to me, but I would think it'd be awfully hard to "fake" a healing black eye because of the daily changes in color and shape that occur during the healing process.

The "B" wound looks like it was made by a toothpick or something. It's a scratch at best.

Do people who usually need glasses for reading/computer use also use their glasses for things like using an ATM? Perhaps not, if the touchscreen images are large enough. Wouldn't she need her glasses to blog while driving, at least? I can't use my cell-phone without glasses... Besides all that, texting and driving is bloody dangerous. Was she really doing that?

52. Strangely enough, city cops don't like out of towners coming into their jurisdiction
and leading people to believe that the streets are unsafe.

Imagine that.

For a city like Pittsburgh that has spent a good deal of time trying to re-craft its image, little things like this are even more important. Finally, the mayor of Pittsburgh (Luke Ravenstahl, age 28!!) is a Dem, and I suspect he's hearing holy hell from his constituents and their reps about false racist accusations, and that flows down to the cops. She will confess to her fraud by 11am tomorrow, almost certainly.

62. Ya. Imagine that. Good point. False crime reports must make cops
livid... for good reason. I know this hasn't been proven false (or valid) yet, but it sure does look that way.

The police don't need things like false reports to keep them from keeping their communities safe... the hate/racial aspect of this puts the severity of it up a notch, in my view (again, if proven to be a falsified incident. I agree with you - I think we may hear something on this soon).

So many ramifications if it's as false as it certainly looks from here.
