"Nowhere did she say to the officer that the assailant made reference to the bumper sticker. I don't know how she came to the conclusion that he noticed the sticker. Our detectives will spend more time and get a more in-depth report," Cmdr. Ross said.

man who robbed a Liberty Ave bank in recent weeks".

"The initial report would lead us to believe it was a street robbery," said Zone 5 police Cmdr. Larry Ross.

"A friend said Ms. Todd went to an unknown hospital on her own around 1 a.m. Uh Uh.

Zone 5 detectives were handling the case initially, but it was turned over to the robbery squad last night after the case made national headlines.

"Nowhere did she say to the officer that made reference to the bumper sticker. I don't know how she came to the conclusion that he noticed the sticker. Our detectives will spend more time and get a more in-depth report," Cmdr. Ross said.

He said the description of the robber as a 6-foot 4-inch, 200-pound black man is similar to that of a man who robbed a Liberty Avenue bank in recent weeks.

Police were checking surveillance video of the Wednesday ATM incident.

Several employees at nearby businesses last night said they were unaware of the attack."

I can't wait to hear the end of this.

28. Okay. She was attacked in a City she didn't know, but she went ALONE to a hospital at 1am?
Does she sound unstable? Trying to be charitable here.. but if she was really attacked, would she really want to be driving around alone in an unfamiliar city? What kind of friend does she have that wouldn't go with her? And why couldn't she wait until morning?

35. ...an "unknown" hospital at that.
Seems like it must have been a different friend that gave this account, because the one that lives on Cypress Street would surely know that she had gone to West Penn a few blocks away, or else had reason to go to a different hospital.

Also, according to Mr. Eilon, Ms. Todd has been in "Pennsylvania" for two weeks. Does that mean she's been in Pittsburgh for two weeks? If so, it's funny that she didn't know yet that there are no Bank of America's here.

:freak:

50. The attack happened a few blocks from West Penn Hospital
It's a bad part of the city, but it's also a very busy street. A criminal wouldn't have had time to do what she said unless he dragged her off to some remote location. But I find it strange that none of the businesses in the area had heard anything about the attack. If I had just been attacked, I would have screamed and used the same device I was twittering away on all night, to call the police.

14. There was another post on DU about her going to the hospital
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 12:19 AM by thecorrection
Update VII: I spoke with two executives at the College Republicans on the record about this story. Charlie Smith, the National Chair, and Ethan Eilon, the Executive Director, both say the photo is legitimate and that it came from Ashley Todd, the victim in this case. The attack began at 8:50 pm ET and Ashley called the police at 9:30 PM ET. Initially, she was robbed, ran away after the robbery, and the robber followed her to her car. At that point, he became enraged at the bumper sticker and began beating her and scratched the ‘B’ into her face. Ashley went to the hospital early this morning after initially refusing medical attention last night, and had an MRI and/or a CAT scan. Doctors believe her cheek will heal fully.

Someone of that height would have to have a 28" waist to be that light. So let's all be on the lookout for an ambidextrous super tall super skinny black mugger who writes backwards and has long fingernails that could be used for gently scratching the faces of his victims.

24. Wait. Wait... just - wait. This makes no sense.

If there was no indication that the inordinately gentle assailant saw or referenced the bumper sticker, then there is no reason to conclude that there was political motivation whatsoever. But everyone has assumed this... (including the presidential nominees of both parties) - why? Because Ms.Todd guessed that this was the case?

If she were actually mugged and the mugger followed her to teach her a "lesson", it seems far more likely that any "B" scratched delicately on her cheek would represent a word that rhymes with "witch" or something along those lines... no?

I haven't read any article or report that indicates her assailant told her specifically what the "B" was supposed to represent. Does anyone know what it was supposed to represent and if that representation was also assumed by Ms. Todd or if there was a direct statement from the mugger as to what it meant?

This story is beginning to make me increasingly unhappy.

42. The other money line: "She told police the man sat on her chest."
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 04:26 AM by VolcanoJen
There are too many holes...

Ms. Todd told police during at least five hours of questioning last night that her attacker said to her, "You are going to be a Barack supporter." She told police the man then sat on her chest, pinning both her hands down with his knees and used what she believed was a dull knife with a roughly 5-inch blade to carve the B.

He sat on her chest and then "carved" a backward "B"? Really?? How odd.

Another strange piece of this puzzle... her local College Republican organizer told KDKA in a video report at this link that she was on her way to a meeting when she was attacked... but she twittered that she was searching for a fee-free ATM after midnight. A campaign meeting? After midnight?

This is getting dumber and dumber, if you ask me.

Police: Woman With 'B' Scratched In Face Faked Political Attack
Bloomfield ATM Robbery At Knifepoint Was Made Up, Police Say

***************************

Richard said Todd said on Friday she wasn't sure if it was a bumper sticker on her car or a campaign button on her jacket that angered the attacker. Richard said Todd added new details to the attack, saying at one point she lost consciousness.

"She also indicated she was sexually assaulted as well. She indicated that when he had her on the ground he put his hand up her blouse and started fondling her.
But other than that, she says she doesn't remember anything else. So we're adding a sexual assault to this as well," Richard said.
